W9R2 (actually week 10 for me!) and decided to change route. The first half was pretty much all downhill and went off like Skippy the bush kangaroo and feeling pretty chuffed that my calf’s were feeling ok after a few days of discomfort (more pre run stretching helped … thanks Beachcomber66).
The halfway bell went off and turned around to head back…. forgetting of course that it was all uphill ! It felt like Ben Nevis staring at me at times but managed to finish the 30mins albeit not much faster than fast walking pace!
Another lesson learned and the next time I do that route I will be stopping at the pub I passed!
Congratulations on a super run! It’s amazing how hills can feel different when you’re running compared with walking or driving. Sometimes a place you think is “totally flat” has leg busting gentle climbs that go on for ages!! It was tough but you were tougher. You’re in a great position to go out and really enjoy your final run of the programme (and your celebratory trip to the pub!). Can’t wait to hear how it goes! Good luck! ☘️
Well done to you... the calf exercises pay dividends and those calf muscles do need taking care of.
I remember too, things that looked like Everest! Now, I know they are just small inclines!!! But those hills, really are our friends... they strengthen every bit of us...and as someone told me once, way back, her on the forum...
Most all of my C25K programme was on relatively flat ground. I ran a 5K at the weekend with some major (for me) hills and it really threw me. I made it up the largest hill on the first lap, but afterwards had to revert to walking/running intervals for the rest of the race.
I always laugh and say that my run speed is basically a little faster than my most brisk walk.
But I'm ok with that. I'm making forward progress and when I look back to Week 1 - it's astounding the progress I've made.
Best part, you've got one run left until graduation! Keep us posted...
