Here we go again!

3rd time round for me, not ran for about a year and now starting again. Week 1 just complete. Was hoping for the muscle memory to kick in but seems like it’s still in hibernation!

my issue is stretching my quads after a run. I’m very chunky and can’t reach my foot to hold to stretch them, even if I use a chair to get to my foot, any other suggestions on how to stretch them please?

Welcome back! It’s tough after a break. I found it worse than starting for the first time! You’ll get there though and it’ll all come back. You’ve already got loads of knowledge and experience from last time and that will stand you in great stead.

I sometimes use a yoga strap (or a belt or a towel!) if I’m struggling to reach to perform a particular stretch. You can loop it around your ankle and pull gentle to stretch your quads. I’ve attached a screen shot from the video here to help illustrate what I mean in case it’s not obvious! If you google “quad stretch with yoga strap” you’ll get lots of options.

Good luck with the rerun!

Hello and welcome back! Yes... sometimes out does have an impact... and getting back into things gently is the way.

Many of us have and are doing this return journey and making sure that our running body is ready for it, is paramount.

There are loads of ideas on the strength and flex forum, with exercises for every part of our running body!

Here is one of mine...

healthunlocked.com/strength...

... and for me... one of the best exercises which will impact your quads? Squats!

healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

So, take a peek and do try to get into a regular habit of putting in some support exercise on some of your rest days m as you move forwards.

Hope this helps a tad... and well done to you!
