Just finished werk4 run1 and pleased I did it but it feels like quite a jump up from last week. It was tough! Really like the app though and this group. I’m struggling a bit with my breathing and not sure if it’s because I breath through my mouth. Need to read the guide that others have shared here, thanks. It’s great to hear everyone’s experiences.

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

Difficulty in breathing is almost always a sign that you are pushing too hard.

Counterintuitively, it is an easy conversational pace running that builds your stamina and endurance, not fast running.

Say this sentence out loud to yourself "Am I going slow enough to enable me to speak this sentence in one out breath?" If you cannot, you are going too fast.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5....

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Tough run, meets even tougher runner, and it’s no contest. Victory is yours, very well done!

I couldn’t, and still don’t, breathe as per the app/podcast advice. I decided to do the same as with my breathing the rest of the day and not think about it. I put on some good podcasts so I needed to concentrate on them rather than music that is just background, and just like sitting on the sofa, my subconscious controlled my breathing! If you’re running the right pace there’s no need to overthink things.

Happy running.

Thanks for your encouragement. I hadn’t thought of podcasts to take my mind off, will give it a try.

Don't worry about any particular method for breathing, just breathe however feels natural to you , it's seen you through so far 🙂

Well done so far ☺️Try slowing your pace down (even if you think you’re already going slow). This really helped me. I used to be a nose breather but I swapped to mouth breathing as you get more oxygen - your breathing will become easier when you slow your pace down - good luck!

Week 4 is indeed a step up. You're doing double the amount of running you did in the sessions of the first two weeks.
