Many thanks to everyone who was kind enough to wave your pom poms for me! Yesterday I finally got to run a Race For Life! Some of you will remember that I used to live in France during the summer months, RFL was one of the events I always wanted to take part in but was never able. During the last two years I was forced to remain in UK due to covid, and of course all live events were cancelled....finally I got to do it!!

I absolutely loved it! Especially the first 5 KM, there were lots of other runners of about my ability, probably the first time I have actually run with others, normally I am left on my own plodding away at the back! The route was super, all over the town of Cambridge, the best but was running through the grounds of King's College, that was very special.

Then we got back to the start area, the 5 KM-ers peeled off to get their medals, us 10 KM-ers carried on along the Cam, that bit was somewhat harder. I was pretty much on my own now and it seemed to go on for ever! To be honest, if I had known the full route I would probably have done the 5 KM, but hey! I did it!

I had surgery for thyroid cancer in March, my second dance with Mr C, and it has rather knocked me back in terms of training, so this was the first time I have done 10 KM since then. I did it on run/walk 2 mins running 1 min walking, and was rather pleased with my time of 1:30, only a few minutes slower than my pre-illness all-running time. The medal is a bit naff, as is usual at RFL I believe, but I don't care, I earnt it!!

P.S. I'm looking a bit grim in my pic, a front crown broke off last week, leaving a massive gap in my teeth, no smiling for me till it's fixed!

Fantastic news Curlygurly2 ! Well done on your Race for Life, and I'm pleased we were able to get the emergency pompom service waving in time for you.

All the best for getting the teeth fixed too - sounds like you need linda9389 's dentist! The first thing I checked when I faceplanted last week was whether I'd smashed any teeth, thankfully no.

Sorry to hear about your fall. I had a bad fall a year or so ago, and cut the inside of my lip with my teeth, so yes, first thing I checked. People were stepping over me as I sat on the floor with blood pouring down my face. Two plain clothes police officers pulled over and patched me up, and I had to go to hospital with a big gash in my forehead where I smashed my specs into my face. They stuck it together with glue, I never knew that was a thing! £160 for new goggles...

Wow! It’s hard to believe people could be so callous as to ignore someone who is bleeding on the ground. Thank goodness the police came along when they did.

Another one in the Smashers' Club Curlygurly2 ! Sounds like a bad experience, not least people ignoring you. Disgraceful. Expensive too, ugh. Glad I wear contact lenses and didn't have my Garmin on when I fell. Hospital decided against glueing or stitching me up as the gashes weren't deep or long, but were mucky and needed to drain. So attractive!

Ha ha yes! I'm not worrying to much about smiling in general, it's visible from miles away, but no photos if I can help it!
