It’s been 5 months since I was diagnosed with early onset of Osteoarthritis of the knees after a great achievement of running 7miles at my fittest, then the pain kicked in and everything came to a stand still apart from the odd walk now and then.

So things had to change I felt great physically and mentally when I was running and I wanted to get back there. I bought good inner soles for my running shoes (HOKA) after extensive research and recommendations, also I’m taking turmeric for the last month which apparently is good for the joints and ibuprofen before any long distance walking.

This morning was the restart of the C25k Ibuprofen taken and off I went, I felt great when I’d finished all was good and I hope it continues. Here to next time 😊 happy running everyone.

Can I ask why you take ibuprofen before your run?

in reply toJohn_W

Hi John, I take the ibuprofen to keep the swelling and niggles away from my knees, it works no swelling or niggles all good.

How much do you take? And were you advised by a professional to do it?

in reply toJohn_W

Hi John I’m not one normally for taking tablets unless it necessary I take two ibuprofen it’s more of a precaution just Incase my knees swell from running or long walks and cause me pain it works for me. My GP recommend I take them to help with any swelling or pain.

I see from your profile you have dodgy knees how do you manage them?

Thanks.

My dodgy knees were 'cured' with custom orthoses which allowed to start running and do C25K seven years ago. My left knee has been quite bad for the last 10 months though (my own fault but won't go into details) and I'm simply taking it 1 week at a time, trying to maintain a baseline of 3-4x 30 minutes runs per week on a treadmill, which is much softer then than the pavements and tarmac in the city centre where I live. The knee is getting irritated very easily however.

Well done for having another go, Runforfitness. Have you done any research into non-inflammatory eating? Reducing inflammation in the body through what you eat can really help with arthritis... 😉

Hi Yoganut. Thanks

No I haven’t thanks for the tip I shall take a look at that more in depth when I get the time, I did have a brief look on google looks interesting let’s hope it helps.

I have osteopenia in my hip and shoulder which is why I started running as it is supposed to be good for building bone strength, I must say if I stop running for say a week my joints hurt more so I will just have to keep on running!!!

in reply toWavy-chick28

Thank you, you have inspired me to carry on. Funny you should say that about your joints if you stopped running, after my run my knees felt great . We just have to keep moving 😊

And you inspired me even though I was tired and achey from tidying and decluttering my old Dads house yesterday to get up and run! Feel so much better. Let’s keep running !!

You’re obviously a runner at heart, well done on completing that first run! I keep meaning to read up on turmeric, I hear great things about it. 😊😊😊
