Today was one of my better runs and apart from a very small incline where my legs seem to turn to jelly as I crossed over a bridge I was very happy with my run
I didn't burn out my lungs as per week 1 and I didn't get cramp in my legs so overall a success and soon week 4

Thank you. I did think so a little today. I understand the addiction part as I used to run regularly but then I got sick and everything changed but, and not sure I should say this out loud, today made me think maybe I can do this but running now is never going to be as easy it was before as the side they cut into feels heavier which affects my balance.
Then be kind to yourself and proud of what you can do, we are mid sixties and always amazed that we can run and love the fact we can, we are pretty slow but we get out there. Don’t compete with anyone and one day you will realise it’s not so hard as it was in the beginning
Some days I am and other days I remember how I used to run around a 5K track for fun. I am still coming to terms with my current situation. That is excellent and gives me hope. I walked, and hope to again, with people well past 60 fitter than me before I was sick. Light running is the only fun I can have at the mo. I am banned from strenuous walking and my other enjoyments such as live gigs are closed. After my recent fun and games I too am very glad I can light jog again. I had problems walking only 3-4 months ago. I too am slow but I always try to get out even if only for a local walk. Yeah agreed I need to stop competing with my former self.
I live on a hill and can't escape the inclines, so some days I just turn and run back downhill for a bit- some days even about 20 paces back down hill gives me renewed energy to face the uphill again🤣
I definitely could not run up a hill but the incline is just that and definitely not a hill. The road is just raised a little to create a bridge. I think in my current state of health I would have to walk to a flatter surface. The problem I have is that where I am it's very rural so a 10 minute walk and the pavements disappear. I like your strategy to tackling the hills.
That's because it feels like it on the legs 😀. I found a proper slope today. There are 2 sets of steps but narrow and I have large feet but there is also a slope so for some of the later runs I might have to clear that to take me into the next village or double back on myself because the pavements disappear. Obviously I have not decided yet.
Congratulations! I’ve just completed W3 R3 too ( for the second time as I didn’t feel ready to move in)) I’ve never run before but to celebrate becoming an OAP thought I’d give it a go. It’s all going ok but I’m a bit wary of attempting the 5 minutes in W4 as my heart rate is peaking at about 167 most runs. A friend who runs regularly said to go more by how I feel - and to stop obsessing about my Fitbit!
Thank you. I was going to repeat as I had an awful run 1 but I had a good run 3 so I didn't in the end. If I had had a poor or mediocre run 3 I would have repeated as I have no problem with that. I was a very active runner and ex couch to 5K graduate 5K most days in the morning before work, if the buses were on time. You are never too old. I had a heart operation last year and still in recovery so I don't monitor anything I just run. I have not updated yet but completed my first 5 mins today albeit slowly. Believe in the programme, it works. I think you're friend is wise although this time last year I was very close to collapse and didn't even know it until the hospital picked up on it via echocardiogram so maybe Fitbits have their place. I only popped in as I was coughing at the end of my runs and thought it was the virus but it was my ticker struggling 😀. Unlike a lot of people the virus actually helped me as without it I would never have gone to the doc.
Yes I was very fortunate and not many people can say the virus helped them but in a round about way it did me. I had none of the classic signs of heart disease so I was just getting up each day running my lockdown run and feeling great bar a mildly annoying cough. When I was admitted to hospital 1 they asked me what I had done today. I said I started with a 40 minute run and they went whoah whoah stop right there. In my condition there should have been no way I should have been running apparently.
