Frozen foot W4

I completed Wk4 R3 yesterday its all going well however I got what I can only describe as a "frozen foot" during the run. It was quite uncomfortable and started as pins and needles then my foot was mostly numb. My trainers are well fitting and weren't laced too tightly so not sure what it was, when I cooled down it was fine. It was a very cold day but my other foot was fine. Has anyone ever experienced this and how can I prevent it from reoccuring?

Welcome to the forum and well done on your progress.

Pins and needles and numbness are symptomatic of restricted blood flow, so my only suggestion is that your feet swelled, as most people's do, when you ran. I have not heard of this occurring for another reason.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

It happens to me. Probably the pressure you put on your foot.( am 2-3 stone overweight, but losing weight.) I ran 5.8K on Saturday, It kicked in at the 2.5K mark but disappeared at 5.3K. I got it today at 2.5K and ran 4.3K. It disappeared within 2 minutes of my warm down walk. It is good news that it disappeared after you stopped. Otherwise it might be more serious. You may want to check out lacing up running shoes - it is a bit mind boggling.

I think lacing up even less tight next time. Your feet expand more than you think.

I had a niggle on the top of my left foot but this stopped after a while once I started lacing up less tightly. I guess this pins and needles comes from us being new runners too. I started 5 months ago and graduated over 2 months ago, but I still class myself as a beginner.

thanks this is good advice and am pleased to hear that it stopped with you. I also have a bit of weight to lose about a stone. I will take your advice on board. Many thanks !
