A Steady 5K before work

This was my first run since my 12K last Thursday, nothing to do with the 12K, just struggling to find the right time and weather , I prefer not to run in the rain if I don't have to ! 😁

Anyway the run was good, no problems and I enjoyed it , which is all that matters to me !

At least I hadn't forgotten how to run πŸ˜‚

Great stuff. I bet it felt good to be back out there. Not a bad time either!

Just back from my 4k. Tried intervals - hmm...

Long sleeves this morning?

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to Birdlady64

I like that ! Intervals hmm....haha .

Yes , long sleeves but still in shorts πŸ™‚

Birdlady64 profile image
Birdlady64Graduate in reply to Instructor57

T-shirt and shorts for me - just right. Not too hot for once😁

Need a coffee now before work

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to Birdlady64

It was porridge and a mug of tea for me 😁

Birdlady64 profile image
Birdlady64Graduate in reply to Instructor57

I know porridge is a proper runners breakfast, but that's a winter breakfast for me. And I'm still refusing to believe that summer is actually over!

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to Birdlady64

I can eat it all year round but sometimes change it for a homemade muesli, 😁

Birdlady64 profile image
Birdlady64Graduate in reply to Instructor57

Homemade - lovely. You can put exactly what you like into it πŸ˜‹

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to Birdlady64

Yes, I toast rolled oats , add sunflower seeds, flaked almonds , walnut pieces , sultanas , puffed wheat and cinnamon.

Then I grate an apple on top and have with almond milk πŸ˜‹

It's a BBC good food recipe

Birdlady64 profile image
Birdlady64Graduate in reply to Instructor57

Yum!

I like almond milk but recently switched to oat milk for my cereals due to environmental concerns

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to Birdlady64

Not tried oat milk, might give it a go πŸ‘

Roxdog profile image
RoxdogGraduate in reply to Instructor57

I make granola with nuts, dried fruit and seeds. I don't consume dairy so use oat milk and have started adding hemp protein powder too!

Sounds nice πŸ˜πŸ˜‹πŸ‘

Good run and time for you Instructor57, I am so happy to know that you enjoyed it after a short break from running, good 12K for you last week as well.

I ran 8K this morning in just under a hour at 58 minutes, I do understand that watch except for that "38 VO2 Max" ???

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to AlMorr

Thanks Al, as far as I know (and that's not very far πŸ˜‚) VO2 Max is a measure of the ability of the body to effectively use oxygen whilst under stress (excesising)

The higher the number the fitter you are .

My reading of 38 gives me a fitness age of 51 , although in years I am 63.

But , and it's a BIG but , I don't think it's very accurate from a watch 😁

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate in reply to Instructor57

Yes I have heard that despite the high price for a Garmin watch they are not very accurate, better to spend your money on a good pair of running shoes, nevertheless that age of 51 will make you very happy 😊 πŸƒπŸΎ

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to AlMorr

It's not really a statistic I'm overly interested in but yes, it's nice that it suggests my fitness age is 12 years less than my actual age πŸ˜‚

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate in reply to Instructor57

Excellent, goodness knows what my fitness age is, my actual age as you see on my profile is 74, fitness age "probably 73"

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to AlMorr

I should imagine it's a lot lower than that Al with all your walking, cycling and running ! 😁

Good run :-) Not keen on heavy rain either but these nice cooler mornings are lovely.

Yes, just about right without overheating ,πŸ˜πŸ‘

That's great! It has been quite miserable out there, glad you found a nice window this morning πŸ˜ƒπŸ’ͺ Today was my first run since Saturday, much more enjoyable than running in the cold rain with strong winds!

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to Beatlesforever

Absolutely, no point going if your not going to enjoy it πŸ˜πŸ‘

Good job! I did a 5k this morning too. Which I decided would be mainly uphill, just for a bit of a challenge. Lovely morning, good strong run, but it was slower paced than my ridiculous 10k in the wild weather at the weekend! Shows how much inclines slow me down!

Glad you got out there. I think it's fine if you don't manage 3 runs a week, I'm not always getting 3 runs in at the moment. That said, I'm pretty sedentary on the other days apart from my strengthening exercises and the odd trip to my allotment or a dog walk! Oh well... doing our best!

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to Roxdog

Yes, hills are a real pace killer aren't they 😁

Im happy if I can get a couple of runs in in a week !

During C25k I ran every other day ,

Since my week 8 injury I prefer a bit less, and if the weather is bad or I'm working early then it can sometimes be more days off ,

It's still a lot more than I did before C25k and as long as I'm enjoying it then that's fine 😁

I panic that I will "lose it" if I don't go for a couple of days. Silly I know and a little OCD πŸ˜‚

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to Maz1103

No, not silly, I would normally have gone after 2 days at most but didn't really have the opportunity .

But you don't loose it πŸ˜πŸ‘

I did not go for a run today. Following my run on Monday I felt a little pain in my knee so I have decided to wait till the weekend.

Instructor57 profile image
Instructor57Graduate in reply to 9weeks2Run

I think it's wise if you have a niggle , no point risking it getting worse !

Since my week 8 injury I am more nervous about running with a niggle !

An extra day or so won't do you any harm πŸ‘

9weeks2Run profile image
9weeks2RunGraduate in reply to Instructor57

Yes that is what I thought!!

Interestingly I normally do a 15 minute warm up walk but only did 5 minutes so I am going to go back to the 15 minutes warm up walk before I start and run 5k instead of 6k.

Yes, good idea πŸ‘
