W8R1

My more experienced running brother and husband joined me on this one. I normally run alone for very good reason. Despite my ‘I’m SLOOOOOW’ protests, I was a part of a trio today.

First 5 mins, I struggled to find my pace. Didn’t help have both of them trying to inch quicker but I stuck to my guns and went slow and steady! Screw you experienced runners!

Eventually found my pace around 10mins and both my men realised I wasn’t going to cave to their quicker scheming ways. They eventually got fed up of me around 18mins and sped off. 😂😂 Well who needs them anyway!? Supportive my arse! Haha! Don’t blame them really with my 🐌 ways!

Once ditched I felt a sense of calm again! Carried on at steady pace despite MJ suggesting I could change my pace! Pah what does he know!?? Completed 4.7k this includes the 5min walk at the beginning and 28min run. For my future runs I will now only pace the actual run and not the walk. I’d like to see if I have any hope of covering 5k in 30mins. I know this isn’t the point as such but starting to feel a bit competitive with myself! 😬💪🏽💃🏽

Pacing the run and not the walk at this point is dead sensible. Helps you work out how far adrift (or not) you are from a 5K run when you get W9.

See you on Weds. Do your own thing, hon. But hope the lads had a good time out there today too :-)

Cheers mate! Yes they both ended up doing at 10k in total! 🙄Something they are used to doing. One day maybe..... A girl can dream 😉

If that's what you want to do, go for it. Key thing is to find a distance you like (5, 10, HM, woteva) and then get better at that (cadence, intervals, stuff). A lot of people just inadvertently fall into going after longer and longer distances "just because". They don't really improve much apart from plodding for longer and get into a rut.

Listen to your own drummer!! xx

It appeals to me just for the sheer buzz of getting to that level of fitness that I can! Perhaps once I’ve reached that goal I may decide 5k is enough! I’m fairly lazy at heart so feel this may be the case 😂 P.s I don’t really know what cadence means 🙈🙈xx

Cadence is how many steps you take in a minute; key is to take lots of little steps so you don't overstride. "Patterm patter, patter"... :-)

There's a C25K+ podcast called Stepping Stones for cadence when you're ready and all manner of alternatives out there.

That can wait for bit tho :-)

I’m a short arse....patter, patter is all I know lol 🙂xx

Well done!! You've got to do it your way or it won't be fun and it will feel too pushed 💪👍😁

You'll get there in your own time, don't forget the tortoise! 😉

You’re right I’m totally neglecting giving a shout out to my tortoise friends! Slow and proud!!🐢🐢🐢xx

Blokes! Paaaa! I’d never run with my son, or especially my husband who’s uber fit. They’d grow moss at the pace I run!

My daughters are more sympathetic and the one I run with circles back to me!

Sounds like you’re doing brilliantly Dee! Yes, good plan just measuring the runs now! Have fun. 👏👏😀😀🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️

I didn’t want to run with them, they bloody insisted on hanging around! Would rather they just did their own thing and left me to my own devices. 😆 Thanks Cheeky, you’re doing fab too!! Xx

Sounds like you did the right thing by running on your own - you can take things at your own speed then . You are doing fab - and the best pace looks really good. I know that this isn’t about speed but I don’t think you are far off 5k in 30 min 👏👏

Fingers crossed!! Not sure I’ll manage it where I live. Lots of inclines. Today’s run was on a flat. But perhaps I’ll drive to a park and see on flatter surfaces!? Hmmm xx

Well done Dee, and good on you for not being pressured to keep up with the "fitties"!!! I was thinking the same about just timing my runs and not my warm up and cool down walk. We'll have to compare notes! Hehe!

Dee_N profile image
Dee_NGraduate in reply toSANDI_runs

Ahh I’m glad I’m not the only one who does that! X

Glad you mentioned about timing running element only

I'm on W6 and start my fitbit as soon as I leave the house, which includes the 5 min warm up. Similarly, stop it after the cool down. Perhaps I should just look at the run from now on

Dee_N profile image
Dee_NGraduate in reply toBluep

Yes probably worth doing. I did the walks to as wanted to see what my overall distance covered was. But now I’m only interested in the run so think I’ll not record the walking element of it 🙂x

Great run Dee!! And I know the feeling about running with those who have been happily doing the running thing for some time. I had offers from my boys during the programme! 🤨 As sweet and sincere as the offer was, I said no thank you!! 😂 I’ve seen them come home having run like a whirling dervish! The intimidation would have put me off. Besides running was and still is me time!! When I can shock them and leave them for dust, I might just suggest a jog!! 😉🚀 Might be a while then! 😂

Good for you for sticking to your running and not being swept along!! That’s exactly how it should be! You’re already covering a great distance in 30 minutes Dee!! 😍! Fantastic! Well done!! ❤️

Thank you so much Fabulous! Missing you on here!! How are your longer runs going? Xx

Aah thank you 😊!! I’m doing a 5k about once a week now and lots of different kind of runs to increase my stamina and pace (speed runs, benchmarking, tempo - they are normally shorter runs overall). I’m doing 5k in under 37 minutes at the moment. My first 5k was 42 minutes, so I’m getting better.

Oh I still keep my eye and send messages to my fellow runners on their way to Grad too! So I’m about!!

Keep up the great work!! You’ll be on that podium very soon!! Well done!! 😁😁❤️

Wow you’ve got all the runners lingo going on there! 😁 Sounding like an absolute pro! Well done on getting your time down for 5k! Sounds like you’re doing amazingly! Xx
