Hi everyone. I’m 62. Lost 5 stone by myself .

This is my 3rd time with trying to run. I begun about 2 years ago . Then stopped as feeling unwell. Diagnosed with Lymphoma ( blood cancer in immune system) . After treatment begun again to get fit . Got to the end and began to aim towards 10K. Then became very ill and ended up in hospital . Since then Chemo , radiotherapy , and now on 2 years of a type of chemo every 8 weeks .

Have begun again with 5 k and am at week 4 . Has taken me 10 weeks to get this far . Feels like real hard work this time as have to build up strength . Have come back to this site,as,it kept me going last time . Really struggling at the moment . We have moved, and everywhere from my house is up hill.

Welcome back to the forum and well done on your progress.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Good luck. You’ve clearly got grit and perseverance. Stick with it and the advice on this forum. Shame about the hills though, that’s a tough one!

Hello & welcome back. You have had such a challenging time- good for you having such determination. 😄

If you are tired, perhaps you could walk up hills for now & run once you are up. Run as you can! - It’s much better than not running at all. 😄

What a rollercoaster journey you’ve had. I am pleased that your health has settled down. It is unsurprising that you are finding the program harder this time if you are still on a drug regime and have been through the wringer in the way that you have.

It’s easy to say this but I know it’s not an easy thing to do but here goes - be kind to yourself and be patient with your body - you’ve been through a lot.

The fact that it has taken you 10 weeks to get to week 4 is only important in as much as it demonstrates that you have real determination and a desire to succeed.

Take the time that you need - it’s not a race to the finish line, it’s about endurance and mental stamina and I’d say that you must have both in spades.

Keep posting so that we know you are sticking with it and staying well 😊

Well done on what you have achieved so far .

My running stopped last year due to being diagnosed with bowel cancer . I had done 3 10ks in the months before , the last one just 4 weeks before diagnosis . After an operation I had 5 weeks of radiotherapy and chemotherapy combined and had started to slowly and gradually get back to walking before I had my major operation in October . I got the news in December that I didn't need any further treatment. Phew !

So.... back to walking and then C25K at the beginning of the year with great plans for more 10ks and the Great North Run - we all know what happened next .

I am 60 years old and live surrounded by hills . I try to plan my runs ( 5k every other day) to avoid too much uphill but it's impossible . But , you know what , I don't much care that my times are dreadful , that I often walk up those damned hills , I am just grateful to be here and actually able to do anything. Listen to your body , be kind to yourself, and enjoy whatever you do .

You have done so well. Your right because walking fast uphill is,as,good,as,running on the, flat , I’m sure,. It’s that silly voice in my head that tells me that I havnt done it properly. I’m telling it to shut up. 😊 Good luck to you , hope you get back to 10 k . Stay well. Xx

The elevation gains vary from 60 -100 . I'd say that's hilly !

Stay strong , stay safe . You have done so well xxx
