Not posted on here for quite sometime.
After graduating on 01/01/2018. I continued running managed to get a 31.51 5K pb then did a marathon distance in a week before trying 10K which I eventually did in 1 hour and 15 mins. All was going great I did then did months of 25 miles then 50, 75 and finally in October 2019 I did my first 100 mile month. I was struggling though all through with pain in both achilles. I took a few days off feeling pleased with myself and then decided to go for a run. Well as they say pride goes before a fall and 1km in I tripped went flying through the air but when I went to stand again the pain in my lower leg and calf was awful. I hopped back to my car managed to drive home and get ice on what I though was a calf pull as it was now black and blue and my foot swelled. I hobbled around for about a week then finally went to A&E where in 45 minutes I was in a half plaster cast and told I would be having a boot fitted because I'd completely snapped my right achilles tendon😬. 12 weeks later I started physio with he goal of getting back to running again asap but unfortunately physio just 2 weeks then hospitals closed due to the pandemic. I did my best to self physio and build up strength. I then tried C25K again in 2020 but after 4 weeks the pains and fitness meant I quit. 2 years later I got to week 6 before getting a virus that laid me up for a month. With all fitness levels gone and after affects of Covid x 2 and the virus I didn't think I'd start running again. I also allowed myself to put on 20 kilos sadly 😥
Last year my son began running after years of weight training and bodybuilding. He took to it like a duck to water and by October was running his first official half marathon. We went to watch and I was so inspired I promised I'd try to run again and maybe even enter the 10K race next year. So at the beginning of Feb 2025 I started the journey of C25K again. Jo Whiley my encouragement and yes I have let the odd swear word go when 5 minutes seemed like 20 but now I'm at run 2 week 8 and that's the best I've done since the injury. The 10K race may be a pipe dream as I'm awfully slow now compared to 6/7 years ago and I'll be 60 in November but who knows ?? The one thing I have learnt the hard way is if you're injured don't ignore it look after yourself as you miss things so much when you cant. Hope I haven't bored ppl too much with this 😳 just feels good to be running/walking/jeffing again
