C25k Take 3-wk5r3

Well I nearly didn’t do this!!! After all my encouraging words to the newbies who were dreading it too. 🙄

Yesterday I had a hospital appointment to collect my new orthotics and as it was such a lovely crisp sunny day I thought I’d walk there and back. So I wrapped up warmly and off I set. Nice brisk pace as though I was doing my warm up ( and because I’d left it a bit tight for time too 😳). Now the first part is fine as it is usually one of my warm ups and then beginning of my run. However, after about 1k we turn the corner and start to climb a very long slow hill. 25 years ago I used to run up this with my running buddy but a lot of water has flowed under the bridge since then, and a lot of cake has flowed past the lips too, and I still haven’t got around to running up it again.

Also I am still puffing quite a bit after my sneezy day a couple of days ago but I soldiered on and then it levels out at the top and the view all out over the town is really breathtaking ( literally in my case). “I can see my house from here Mother!”.

Then I was barely sat down in the waiting room when she called me in and I tried the orthotics, spot on at last, and off I went again. A bit more sedate pace downhill strangely as my feet had swollen a bit after stopping even for 5 mins.

Then once at home I had lunch and then proceeded to clean house from top to bottom and then go out and trim and weed and tidy the back garden. So all in all a productive day and I felt great. Great that is, until I had sat down for an hour or so and watched Morse, whilst crocheting, under a stone plus of cats...... then when my daughter popped round and I tried to get up to make a drink I realised my hip was agony again.

It’s been so much better lately that I have been being lax with the loosening exercises and obviously they’ve been working because I could really feel I hadn’t done them. Ended up having a long soak, smothering myself in Heating Gel, popping several painkillers and going to bed. Woken up in the night by the pain down the sciatic nerve in my thigh and took more painkillers. So I was thinking “that’s run3 postponed then”

Then this morning I was woken at 9.30!!!!( I know!! I’m ashamed!) by the FedEx man, delivering my daughter’s parcel and then I was a bit uncomfortable so I came down made a drink and did my exercises and felt quite a bit better and thought” I’ll give it a go”. And I’m glad I did.

I thought I could always just go slow and see how it went and it went ok. Not the best run I’ve done and definitely not the worst. Beautiful morning and not too cold or slippery underfoot. And to be honest it was over and done with quicker than I thought. Although Laura’s watch has something wrong with it because she told me to stop at 19:41 and I did tell her to shut up and carried on to 20 mins.

Well that’s that one ticked off and week 6 here I come. I hope everyone elses run3 went well. And see you next week with run1. 😁

Phew! The aches and pains that come in the middle of the night are truly awful. You have all my sympathy there.

Well done for your run this morning. Truly fantastic considering the night you had. It’s wonderful to get that run under your belt (again). It’s my next one, also on C25k/3! Happy running 🏃‍♀️ 😊

Brilliant effort. I have long standing hip issues which have improved immensely in the 6months I’ve been running. Now the pain only comes when I sit too long 🤔 solution - keep moving 🤣🤣 happy running

triggerpointtherapist.com/b....

I’m the same - pain when I sit or lie for too long. I read the above article and it sounds just like me so I now do specific Pilates exercise to help relieve it and they seem to be working ( but not if I forget to do them 🙄)

Really useful interesting article thank you. I used to regularly see as sports massage guy who talked me through all the muscle and tendon structures as he pummeled away the smiles as I handed over lots of money. As you say, we all need to keep doing the exercises.

I used to go once a month to a sports masseuse. She helped me considerably with all the scar tissue u see my foot after I fractured my ankle 18 months ago. And I’m sure I’d not be running again now if it wasn’t for that!!

But lately I have been to a chiropractic who has pinpointed the problem area and made several small adjustments which have really helped with the pain. The masseuse was concentrating in the buttock area which didn’t really help. All my dr did was prescribe pain killers which only mask the problem. My chiro pinned it down to gluteus minimus. Gave me exercises and suggested asking my Pilates lady for more to loosen tight hip flexors and IT band.

Brilliant, I've learnt over the years to go straight to specialist rather than gp, as you say painkillers just mask the underlying problem. Great you can run after a fractured ankle.

Yay, well done! Take it easy on the next run as it can catch some people out 👍😁
