Completed my first run on Friday before I thought of any more excuses. I have never been a runner and haven't even wanted to run before, but my friend has just graduated and has inspired me. The 30 minute run seems totally impossible, but I am pleased I've started at least! Second run tomorrow.

Week 1 - second run tomorrow
Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.
This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...
and includes advice on minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.
Enjoy your journey.
Well done on getting started. I think that’s one of the hardest things! You did it. I did my graduation run today, and I didn’t believe I would ever make 20 minutes let alone 30. It’s a magic programme and you will be fine.
Don't look too far ahead.
The scheme works. As impossible as it seems, you will be able to do the 30 minute runs by the end of it. Nine weeks is a long time.
You might be jogging very slowly, but 5km is not the target: 30 minutes is.
Keep going... I’m in the exact same position. Never run anywhere in my life and at 63 and with a diagnosis of high BP I was inspired by a friend.
Just about to start week 4 and very daunted by the thought of longer running sections but I’ve managed so far and can always repeat a week as many times as I want until my muscles improve.
It’s supposed to ultimately be pleasurable and it’s definitely good for mental health.
Lots of great support on this forum.
Well done for starting. For me that was the most difficult part. The program really works and I just graduated this morning, which I would never have thought possible when I started. Keep going and let us know how you’re getting on!
Well done for taking the first step and getting started. No one really believes that they will be able to sustain 30 minutes of running in just 9 weeks but miraculously, through following the plan and taking the advice that Iannoda has sent you, you’ll be just like all of us other stunned and proud graduates.
You’ve started the journey now just keep going - you will be amazed at yourself. ☺️
Brilliant! Well done you! If you start off slower than slow and follow the plan , you’ll be fine. Happy running!
