Week 1 Run 1

I did my first run this morning and in some respects I failed miserably!! I only managed 6 of the 8 minute runs. I guess I’ll be repeating this one before I move on.

But I conquered some of my fears! I had a knee injury several years ago which means I now need to run with knee supports. I’ve always been too embarrassed to run because of having to wear knee supports. Today I put on my supports and ran anyway. Unsurprisingly no one even looked at them.

Despite not completing the first run fully I’m proud of myself and actually looking forward to giving it another go!

Way to go!

I'll never forget wk1 r1. It is by far, the hardest run of the program.

Don't worry about repeating it. Feel free to repeat any run or any week. This truly, is not a race to the finish!

You conquered your fears and got out there. That's a massive step on the road to success.

Good luck, and keep us updated.

Thank you Mig! I have a feeling I’ll be repeating this one a couple of times actually!!

No harm in that.

Always make sure you fully complete a run before moving on.

Equally, never let the fear of failure stop you from moving on either.

The only failure is the failure to start a run. If you start one and can't complete it, we just call it a practice run :-).

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

and includes advice on pacin, minimising impact, stretching after every run, hydration and strengthening exercises, all of which will help.

Enjoy your journey.

Blinking brilliant, well done you, should be proud that you got out there and started your running. It doesn’t matter how many repeats or how long it takes just keep persisting and make sure take rest days. Good luck

Thank you so much 😊. Feeling really positive about the next one which I’m planning for Tuesday/Wednesday. Will obviously be a repeat of Run 1 but if I can do it all next time that in itself will be an achievement!

Most welcome, you will definitely get there. I am 49, would have described myself as couch potato and 5kg overweight. Not run for 30 years and now really enjoying it. Hardest bit without doubt is starting it and you’ve done that. You’ll get the runs done and definitely don’t beat yourself up if you struggle with some just accept it as part of a winning journey, you’ll definitely get there. I look forward to your future posts when the sense of self achievement is brilliant. Good luck and sending positive vibes

Wow that’s amazing 😊. I hope so! I’m definitely a bit overweight too (one of the reasons I wanted to start running) and I’ve never properly run before so this is all new to me! Thank you 😊

Hello and well done! Please do not look at any of this as a failure because I was exactly the same. I could only complete 6 out of the 8 runs too on day 1 and week 1. Now I’m on week 3 and really enjoying it. It is so satisfying to watch yourself progress so please keep going. I am so glad you are feeling proud of yourself ❤️

Thank you. My plan is to repeat the first run until I can do all of the runs. Determined to do it no matter how long it takes ❤️
