Cold, drizzly and yuk today. Honestly

Felt like I had lots more in the tank at the end of the run though so I must he improving, but it was like running through treacle today! And I have to go up and down hills and slopes and banks and nothing is ever a straight run for very long in my neighbourhood! Argh!

All good training for the future! Wet, hills ... advanced features 😊 Some runs do feel hard work for no apparent reason thougg, usually means there will be a great one along very soon! The first 10 to 20 minutes of a run are harder as your body gets up to speed with oxygen provision etc. The fact you had more in the tank at the end is reflecting this adaption - you were just getting into your stride 😀 Just slow everything down a bit if it feels hard, there really is no hurry. Good luck and enjoy!

Thankyou! I didn’t know that about the first 10 mins, I thought I would be best at the beginning but I’m not, it’s always around the half way towards the end I feel pumped and amazing! Thankyou endorphins lol x taken. Second rest day today tho as it’s raining again and I cannot face wetness again so soon ha x hoping tomo morning be nice and dry for me! X

As you suddenly up your pace your heart needs to work harder to pump more oxygen around the body to feed your run. It takes a while for your heart to catch up with this change and make up for the oxygen deficiency, hence the first ten minutes being 'toxic'. i also find that my creaky old joints need to warm up a bit before they runa nything like smoothly - and a warm up walk doesn't do it, there are some bits that need to actually run to ease up and that takes time too. These days my first half kilometre is always significantly slower than the rest as I ease into the run (much less unpleasant!).

Fab explanation thank you! I must be addicted Cos I was out there in the rain after all, week 4 run 2 all done and dusted! Fab! X just been looking at the slow jogging Japanese vid that’s been talked about on here too, looks amazing for all flat ground but my terrain is mostly hilly so I’m not sure of it will work for me but I am going to take things a lot slower than I have been, what am i over working for? Lol x
