The penultimate run, and I thought I'd better write something especially after Mig felt so sorry for poor old W9R2 that everyone ignores because R3 is around the corner!!
The best bit was the weather. Yes it was cold and always a head-wind (how does it know which way I'm running all the time!) but no rain! Who's had all the rain they promised us today. I went out this morning to miss the deluge and gales they promised this afternoon ... and they've not appeared yet.
Well I went off too quick from the outset didn't I. Legs are still in the 25/28 minute zone rather than the 30. Not much too quick, but still too quick. I just about managed to get to just over 26 minutes before I felt like I was dying and finished off the last 4 minutes at a much slower jog and gave it some 'slow beans' in the last 30 seconds haha.
When I got back and looked at Garmin and Strava the reason was clear, I was too quick up that damn hill which exhausted me for the remaining 3K'ish, fortunately after a hill comes ... downhill and flat so I didn't appreciate just how much it had taken out of me until the last hill arrived in the last K. On the positive, the overall run was actually a pretty good distance over time and comparable to previous runs, and I killed that damn hill with my best hill time ever. But I could have achieved exactly the same result (distance-wise) by taking that damn hill a bit slower and saving some punch for the last K and feeling a whole lot better at the end.
If you end up with the same overall result by tip-toeing up the hill other than gunning it, but have to finish the run with the stability of a newborn deer, then it’s worth it in my book.
I’m starting a hate group against hills. Any violence acted upon them is one for the cause.
Great effort. Well done, just 1 more to go, enjoy your graduation run. Go at a nice steady pace. But I’ve no doubt you’ll ace it. If you haven’t already, get yourself to a parkrun soon.
