What kind of an idiot runs for a second time in the pouring rain having failed earlier through feeling sick and on the back of an ankle injury?
This kind of idiot! That’s who!
The rain was slightly less intense and it was a bit warmer and I ran like a snail and I listened to my music to take my mind off my discomfort. I also ran on an empty stomach so no sicky feeling this time. The truth is that the first 5 minutes were comfortable, up to 10 minutes was fine too. Once I hit 15 minutes I focused on how I was going to run the rest of the distance and I decided on this: slowly and confidently. I ran back and forth on the path for minutes 15-23 and this was the hardest part but I knew I wasn’t going to stop.
I ran the last 7 minutes mostly downhill and The Buzzcocks, Iggy and The Ruts kept me going for that part and then the last 30 seconds were uphill to Lust For Life.
I didn’t get the firecrackers for this second attempt but I do get the graduate trophy and a sense of relief at a job well done. Thinking of Burkey finishing earlier spurred me on too so thanks to her and everybody else who has encouraged me in this crazy but fantastic journey. Don’t anybody do what I just did!
