Consolidation Run 1

I think psychologically now I am a graduate there is a little bit more of a relaxed feel to my running which is nice - no pressure now. I’ve run mainly on grass due to protecting my knee, but tried 5 minutes of tarmac and found that a little harder although my pace upped a bit. Is that how others have found the change ? Do you get used to tarmac after grass ? Enjoy your runday Sunday everyone 😊🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️💪🏻

It seems running on a treadmill is the easiest, then hard surface and grass is hardest because of the resistance (but softer on the knees!). So you have trained on the most difficult surface so got a boost when you changed. And you do get used to tarmac!

If you have a knee issue, the Japanese slow jogging technique is probably a useful style of running to master as it’s low impact and designed to prevent injury (and it’s great for building strength and stamina). Might not be your thing 100% of the time but useful if you’ve had a break, knee is tender, or running on tarmac. There’s more to it than just being slow, the landing and short stride are key. I love running this way because I started this in my 50s trying to get fit not injured, and find the running pleasurable while doing it. And I can now run for over an hour, which I’m not sure would be possible any other way! Anyway hope it’s of some help.

Just watched the video you added. Very good, I had no idea, but it’s what I do naturally if I had a break of running, just take it slowly and be more conscious of my posture. Great stuff

That’s a good point, I still avoid tarmac as I was so sore on my knees when I first started C25k that. So not braved those roads yet and it’s paying off as my knees are very happy still. I also love the freedom of not having the podcasts anymore.

Interested to find out more about other runners

A firm surface will be faster than a softer one, but cause greater impact.

Soft surfaces can be more energy sapping.

Well done for consolidating! I prefer tarmac, only because it is flat. A softer loose surface is best for me but more difficult to locate locally. Lovely to hear the latest from you!! 😊
