Advice needed....restarting after holiday

So before our holiday I had reached week 5 but was struggling with the longer runs. On our second day away I went for a morning run but was too tired after travelling, pitching tent, bad sleep etc and "failed" with the run...ended up walking instead. Then all good intentions went and I didn't try again all holiday although walked loads, swam etc. Want to get back into it but don't know whether to start from week 1 or dive back in at around week 4 and see how I go. Anyone got any thoughts or experience of this? Sorry for long post.

Relax, nothing wrong with going on holiday and enjoying yourself. That training hasn't left you. You don't have to go back to week 1... try week 4 again if you like, but you can do week 5, I have no doubt about that.... Do whatever you feel comfortable with. Enjoy it.

Thank you. I think I will try from week 4 or 5 again and see how I feel. Was finding week 5 really hard so I think I've also become a bit disheartened by it and need to have a good day to get back into it.

Sounds good. Take it slow when you get back out there, enjoy it. Talk to yourself "This is a nice run, look at the clouds... here comes a gentleman with a dog, i'll say hello" There's method in this madness.. you're a runner, you can do these things. You should be able to have a conversation during your run, so if there's no one around... have one with yourself.

You don't lose any significant condition in two weeks of non running. Beyond that your ability will very slowly reduce.

If you struggle with any run, slow down.

Believe in yourself and trust the plan.

You can do this.

Now, I’m going to say something “slow it down”

I have graduated and always read the posts and whenever the “slow it down” is mentioned I always think to myself yeah yeah, I got my speed and I know my own body!

So after I graduated I tried the steppingstones podcast, it was terrible, I couldn’t manage 3k and that was with 6 walking breaks, I was really disheartened and thought that it was over!

Then, on my last run I thought I would try to slow it down..... what a difference!! I managed to run, non stop, for a whole 5k and could have gone further. No records broken, averaged just under 8min/Km.

Who’d have thought it... they were right (sorry I doubted there advice and experience)
