Two Week Holiday

Hi All,

I've just completed week 5 run 3.

I'm heading off on holidays this Wednesday to Greece for two weeks. It's quite hot over there at the minute so I'm not sure if I'll be able to go running, although I do have my running gear packed. There's no gym in the hotel so running on a treadmill is not an option.

If I do take a two week break will it affect my fitness? Should I repeat week 5 when I come back from my holidays?

All advice greatly appreciated.

Great job on the 20 minute run.

This clever little plan prepares us for the next run all the time, and most of the time we can finish the next run with a little left in the tank, which means it has us a little fitter than the next run will demand. Over the next two days you will get stronger than you were at the start of this run... and then it takes two weeks to start losing fitness. In your case then you should return around where you are now, but with the benefit of fresh legs. If you don’t run at all, the first run back may be tough... so slow and steady as you go. Any running you do manage will only help... if you can’t run a whole session because of the heat or time, then a nice gentle 10 minute run will help maintain your fitness... and if it’s on sand it’s a great workout for the calves (just don’t overdo it on the beach)

Have a great holiday... the runs can wait to have their butts kicked until you get home... any you do while you’re away can be treated as a bonus.

Thanks so much for the reply unfitnomore. I never thought of doing a short gentle run, I'll give that a try just to maintain fitness.

Great advice really appreciate it.

You should be able to pick up where you left off. But so much of this is in your head, just don't pressurise yourself. Repeat the last run if you're worried. If you feel good go for it. Enjoy your holiday!
