Brisk-walked 5k!

Just to see if I could, and set my PB for the future – 55 mins! Pretty pleased as I kept up a very brisk walk – puffing and panting all the way. Needed a day’s rest to recover, and still have stiff legs, but today managed my W6R1. The 55 mins matches some of the slowest times in my local Park Run, so I’m well pleased – might not look so out of place when I finally try one in a few months’ time! So pleased I found this site – happy running everyone!

Brilliant stuff! Just caught up with your previous posts and looks like you’re doing an excellent build up to c25k.

Once you start running, may I suggest this low impact style of running? It’s the Japanese slow jogging technique and is designed to prevent injury, and is very good for those of us not in the first flush of youth and carrying excess baggage (me!)

Lots of people when they see it, say ‘oh I already run slowly’, but this is a particular technique with several parts t it - the most important being the soft landing and short stride. So it’s worth watching the film a few times to catch it all. I first saw this in W6 and wish I’d found it earlier. I still run this way all the time and love it! 6 months on from graduation I can now run for over an hour - this would not be possible any other way!

And the great thing about slow running is you get all the benefits without the pain! It’s very good for shifting tummy fat (I’ve lost 5 from my waist!). And if you run 5k (in time you will!!) you use as many calories if it takes 50 minutes or 25 - it’s the distance not the speed that counts!

Good luck on your amazing journey - it is simply staggering what you can achieve!

I needed this video a long time ago. I'm extremely overweight and I have week 7 run 2 coming up. I never know when to land while jogging. Thank you for sharing!

Oh, I’m so glad! It changed *everything* for me. I absolutely love this way of running. Once you hit your groove, it is so good, it’s pleasurable in the moment, not a slog, and you can go and go. Really!

(5 inches from my waist so far this way!) x
