Attempted my 2nd run today. I still haven’t completed it but at least I got out there and ran more than the last time. I did 6 x 1 minute runs and the brisk walks in between.
I did go to see the practice nurse at my GP surgery to check about running with my achey knee. Initially she advised me not to run at all but then backed down and advised me to be gentle and monitor things. I don’t honestly think she had a clue. Anyway, I went out and after the first run the pain disappeared
I am trying not to feel bad about not completing the full run but I do still feel a bit of a fraud.
I am genuinely chuffed with myself and hope I can keep going.
Did anyone else struggle to complete the first run in their first week? I think it’ll take me a few weeks to get week 1 done 🤨

The first time we did week 1 we couldn’t run for 60 seconds so we repeated it and on the 2nd time around we slowed down and managed more comfortably then i had very sore feet and could barely walk so five weeks later we started again slowed down some more and breezes through week one then two then three then four and today started week five we are very slow now but don’t run out of breath and our legs don’t ache too much so slow is the way to go
Post your runs because it’s encouraging when people comment and share your experience
Wow, well done you. Fingers crossed I get as far as you. I think I need to find my pace, maybe I’m going too fast but I’m not sure I could slow it down. I run the way that feels right for me. I run on a country lane near to where I live and got interrupted by a farmer on his tractor today asking if I was ok - I must have looked a bit odd or in distress 🤣
Check out the japanese slow run video on youtube i’m not sure that’s what we are doing but we are slower than we started and running for longer without bending double and gasping for breath or hollering oh feck my legs hurt lol
Ha ha. I did look at the Japanese slow run and thought it looked really weird. I’ll have another look. To be fair I am not actually struggling too much with aches and stuff. I am quite active at work (on my feet and walking for long stretches) and I think that has served me well. I am gasping for breath a bit though 😂
You should have heard my first few runs it sounded like the death rattle and so loud my partner was quite worried and then suddenly somewhere in week 2 i got my breathing under control it’s not perfect but it’s not bad and i can talk or sing a bit while running now
Well that first week is the hardest and when you run a minute it feels like hours I don’t know why the longer runs feel shorter but they do we have a longer run coming up I will let you know how we do and will look forward to your posts about your progress
Fraud? No way. There’s some great runners on the 10k and marathon forums for whom week 1 of C25K was the toughest thing they’d ever done. I don’t class myself with them (yet) but I really struggled... and one of my greatest inspirations in this running game took a few attempts at week one runs. This is your journey... it takes as long as it takes... you’ll complete this plan the same as all of us... a fitter, healthier, happier runner. We all start at different places... we all end this the same. You’re no fraud... keep crossing the start lines and you will succeed. Happy running.
Wow, what a lovely encouraging reply. You are so right about everyone starting in different places. I actually can’t believe that I have been out for 2 runs for the first time in my 52 years. It is quite a triumph to get this far. Thank you so much for your reply 😀
Don’t be disheartened - you are out there and you weren’t last week! Who cares how long it takes, you have forever. Repeat if you feel like it, move on when you can. Don’t let the demons tell you you can’t do it - keep going! Xx
You get to a point where they stop - I graduated a few weeks ago and now they are quieter. I try and relax about everything before I go, otherwise I get very fixated about my outfit, earphones, route - you name it! It is human nature to be annoyed about the 2 minutes you walked rather than the 20 minutes you ran. Practise being kind to yourself and celebrating your runs. I am willing you on xxx
