My first run

Just started couch to 5k I have been walking about 25/30 miles a week since late May. I have not been able to run for years due to arthritis in my knees had a knee replacement 2 years ago and although I have got back walking I have never dared to try to run until yesterday when I did my first run of week one. Not pretending it was easy or pretty but I managed to do it although I did have to drop down to walk towards the end of the last two. I was delighted with my self. Today I got out my old gym gear as I though thought being dressed for the job may put me in the right mind set.

Sorry for the long post but watch this space as I intend to crack this program.

Great for getting started just go slow and repeat any runs that you don't fully complete. C25k is an amazing plan and really does work you'll get lots of encouragement and support on here. Good luck 😊

Well done Carabean, I’ve only recently come to running after years of being told not to. Was too young for a knee replacement so I had osteotomy, debridement and realignment in 2016. I’ve now just reached Week 9 and I’m enjoying Parkrun. Just take it easy and listen to your body, don’t try and force or go to fast. My running speed is like a snail, but I can now run for 30 minutes. It’s probably worth going for a proper gait assessment to make sure you have the best support in your shoes, if that’s wrong it does have a knock on effect for those of us with dodgy joints.

Well done for starting. Just take it slow and steady. There’s a video on YouTube about Japanese slow jogging, which is very helpful. Good luck!

Check this essential post out... tried and tested advice.... !

Slow and steady is the mantra...rest days are non negotiable and you will need to make sure your running shoes and socks are correct for you.

If you don't complete a run, then rest up and repeat it, as slowly as you like...before you move on:)
