First week completed

So I have just completed run 3 of week 1 and I’m feeling motivated. After the first run and thinking I was going to die the other 2 runs were nowhere near as bad... In fact my cardio is there and recovery is good in between the runs/ walks. Only question I have is, is it normal to still feel the burn in lower legs on the last 2 60 sec runs? I thought that by run 3 i’d be completing the runs without any pains. Don’t get me wrong the pain isn’t bad and I was able to carry on and finish and once finished the pain quickly went... I just thought my legs would be used to the run by the end of the week lol maybe I’m expecting too much too soon. I am happy I started this programme though. Thanks to all here who like/ comment and support.

Congratulations on getting to the end of week 1, that is, by far the hardest week! Everyone is different when it comes to running and the aches and pains they get so what is normal for you may not be what everyone else experiences.

It could be something as simple as your shoes not providing the correct support in the right places, it could be that you are using muscles you don't normally use but are using them quite heavily now, it could be something totally different, I'm afraid I have no medical training so cannot offer any advice.

Make sure you keep us up to date with your progress, people will offer help, advice and support if and when needed.

Take it slow and steady and enjoy the journey.

I think it’s most likely using muscles I haven’t used in a long time. Up til finishing university I was very active - gym, multiple football teams and running. Then I started working full time, had kids etc and found lots of excuses to not exercise... I’d say I’ve been a couch potato for a good 13 years now... it’s been good to start doing this and I want to keep it going now so I don’t end up with high blood pressure (runs in my family).

Great for finishing wk1, your body may take a few weeks to get used to your new exercise good luck 😊

Well done on completing Week 1, great stuff! I wonder if you are striding as you run and over stretching your lower leg muscles? Maybe try and land your feet in line with your hips, more of a light jogging motion, if that makes sense.

It could be this as I have to constantly tell my body to stop running and slow down into a jog pace. I will try and focus better on my technique now that my cardio is better and I’m not dying when running 😂😂😂

😂 Yes, one thing at a time! But I suspect it will make a big difference. Good luck for Week 2, let us know how it goes!

I was going to suggest slowing down, lol. Also make sure you have drunk enough water, I aim for 2-3 litres a day even on non-run days. (I also have frequent flyer miles to the toilet 😂)
