Week 6 completed

Well, that's week 6 done and dusted.

I can't say run 3 was easy - I rather think I started off too fast. Because I do run 3 of every week as part of parkrun, I think I got a bit tempted to try and keep up with the field. But once I'd settled into my usual pace, it was fine.

On the good side - came in under 40 minutes! That was my graduation goal so I'm 3 weeks early. Hooray!

On the bad side - my calf started to twinge near the end of the run and feels more than usually sore. Am going to have to nurse it for a few days and then assess whether to do my Tuesday run or not. Booo! I'd be so gutted not to graduate as planned but would rather delay this than suffer a longer-term injury.

Just 3 more weeks to go on the programme - who'd have thought it!

Sorry to read about the calf, hope it’s feeling better soon. Well done on completing Week 6 👏👏👏

Thank you. I've rolled it and stretched it and it's feeling OK now. Hoping it's just me being pathetic and it's just a twinge but am doing nothing at all tomorrow and taking it very easy until Tuesday. :)

That sounds sensible, better safe than sorry. Hope it’s not a recurring problem 🤞

Glad that you're enjoying your running Pianism, pity about the calf, good that you came in under 40. I just hope that injury heals soon and once it has healed you can continue with week 7.

Sorry about the calf - gentle stretches may help. Well done for getting through week 6. If you can do 6:3 you can do week 7, so relax and enjoy x

Thank you. I've not run for 30 years - 1 week of rest won't hurt! :)

Great job... parkrun is a good place to be doing these runs. To avoid getting sucked in to a faster pace, walk the start for a couple of minutes and let them go... of course then you may feel the pull to catch them up again 🤪

There is NO WAY I could catch anyone up! Lol

😂. I thought that at one stage... volunteering as tailwalker on parkrun showed me otherwise!

Hmm. My motto at the moment is: Don’t get carried away. 😄 Have noticed a sneaky tendency to go a bit faster/further than my regular pace. Possibly you recognise this symptom? Just saying... 😂 But congrats on the 40 minutes 👏🏼 And I hope the calf thing is just a tiny blip!

Yes, I think I pushed just a little bit too much today... the fact that I reduced my PB by about 3 minutes tells the tale on me! Silly, silly me. Well, I shall have to pay the price now.

Well done for completing the week! Good luck nursing the injury. Remember that resting now means being able to keep running later! The schedule is only a guide, not set in concrete. Show yourself some love now and reap the rewards later, you will thank yourself for it eventually. Please don't forget to keep us up to date with your recovery.🤗 Hugs 🤗 xx

Thank you. I feel so disappointed and helpless. I was doing so well. :(

I can understand how frustrating it must be for you. The best medication now is rest, gentle stretches and lots of massage. Your body will thank you for it. And it's a great excuse to get pampered 😜 xx

Phew. Went for an assessment today at our Podiatry department (I work at an University).

Great news - no sprain. Just tired muscles from working too hard.

I'm to carry on running but... guess what?... SLOW DOWN!

So relieved - I was beginning to feel very cooped-up and frustrated!

Well done. Had a right calf issue so took on more water and loads of bananas and after or during the last two runs have felt no effects. So will see how we go hopefully tomorrow evening.
