Not exactly brand new to running (have run on and off) but it’s been a while. When lockdown happened, I gave up my mini jogs completely (AND put on 2 stone AND I’m a few months off 40 😬)! So I’m afraid I’m not currently in good shape.
I just found my first run of week 1 rather challenging....I was shocked at how poor my fitness levels were. I didn’t think running 60 seconds now and again could be so hard!
I am a lady who is overweight by (now) 3 stone. I thought I’d feel a bit self conscious about doing the run (there are lots of super fit ladies around here who look amazing, like they’re running on air 😯) But I didn’t feel so bad about that...I didn’t feel embarrassed and thought that I would. But I’ve found out that running 3 stone overweight (and I’m 5 foot 8) is quite hard...! That’s a lot to push around lol. Well, the regular runs will help with the weight I guess.
After the run, I sort of hobbled back home with many areas of my legs and back hurting. I tried to do the brisk walking in between and on winding down but it wasn’t very fast. I did it though 🙂
I hope my next run will be a bit easier 😐 xxx i’m just running in leggings and a big tshirt - I don’t have any fancy running clothes (my running shoes are gooduns though) 🙂 Thanks for listening xxx

Dressing for comfort is the way to go. You don't need fancy sports clothes.
Most folks here found the first week a shock to the system. I have done it three times!
I gave up after end of week 1 the first time. Gave up after end of week 2 the second time round. I started again with a very well spaced week 1 in mid June and did four week 1 runs. I'm now about to start week 8.
Well done! I had aches and pains after the first two runs in week 1, but it got steadily better after that - I'm sure it will get easier for you too.
Don't worry about having the right gear - if you have decent shoes and you are comfortable, that's all that matters. I run in cheap leggings and whatever teeshirt comes to hand!
Well done! As for running clothes, as long as you're comfortable who cares? Though I'll confess I have rather a lot... from the Lidl discount bin! #howmany1eurorunningtopscaniscore 😉
Thank you so much everyone, for the lovely comments and encouragement. I forgot that I occasionally get headaches after running so I’m lying in a dark room at the mo lol xxxxx aaah I have to keep going. Get this weight off and get fitter! I live next to a bridge - a rather impressive /very long one. I can’t believe I used to run it there and back a few years ago and now I’m in this mess on a Saturday night, lying in the dark having struggled with 60 second running here and there! Haha! Well thank you very much again and I shall check in after my next one on Monday xxxx
Well done 👍 Don’t worry about fancy running gear ...I started off in jeans and a t shirt and only splashed out on some sportier trousers in week 6 🤣 ( I’m four stone overweight and 60!) The world is still not ready for me in leggings but it hasn’t affected my very slow running. Keep going...you’ll smash the programme no bother 👍😊🙌
