First run in a week

Hay fever and sinus problems made running pretty impossible this week, but I seem to have hit on a formula that helps. I went out to run this morning thinking my plan had me down for an easy run, but actually it wanted me to do one 5 minute interval at a fast pace, sandwiched between two slower paced runs.

There was no way I could hit the required pace*, after the week I’ve had, so I just did the best I could.

Run done, I had a brief cool down walk that took me as far as a school football pitch, so I decided I’d do some leg stretching on the ground. Merlin was really good about this and didn’t try to pounce on me, opting to guard me instead - which prompted a passing dog walker to ask if I was okay. Cue a pleasant exchange that involved me telling her to definitely ask again another day as my slightly low blood pressure can sometimes cause me problems after a run.

*I did actually hit the required pace for a very short while going down a slight slope 🤣

It really is. I was coughing by the end, but so think I’ve missed the worst of the pollen.

Just wondering what you do as my daughter has hayfever and was advised by the doctor to take an antihistamine from March right through to October seems to help her 😊

I’ve finally had to stop saying ‘I don’t normally get hay fever’ as this is the 3rd year in a row 🤦‍♀️ made worse by being surrounded by fields of oil seed rape this year.

What finally seems to be helping is hay fever tablet at night (though I’m aiming to get that to the middle of the day), decongestant in the morning, and a saline nasal spray three times a day.

I’m still a bit drippy and I’m still coughing, but it’s definitely much better than last week. I think I’ll have to start in March next year too!
