10k Run

I want some honest opinions plz.... Before I broke my toe I was doing C25K to help me get ready to do the Great Birmingham 10k run for CF.

I transferred my entry to my partner because I thought I wouldn't be able to do it. Now I feel I can do it..... Its 20 days away, I could jog and walk.... Am I pushing it? X

If you want to do it, do it in a a way that will help your training rather than push you back.

Firstly is your toe all healed, if it is the am I right in thinking you are wk5run 3 at the moment. Do you know how far you run In That distance?

I would take that distance and divide it up into run intervals and then add walking breaks in between. I would not try to run any more than a total of 25 mins. You could do 10 x 2.5 min interval runs with walking in between. It would depend on your pace as to how much of a walking interval you would need. If you do it that way then you should be able to complete it without any risk. If you start off with the back of the pack runners you will probably find many other run walkers there as well.

I started C25K months ago but had to stop at week 7 because I broke my toe in 2 places so ive been off for 9 weeks.

I started back today and was advised to start from W5R3. My pace is not fast its steady and even thought W5R3 is a consistent 20min run I had to walk 3 times in between. I did complete the 20mins running by adding time on at the end and in total I ran 3 miles in 30mins.

I would really love to do the run and I think doing it like you said would really work as long as I do the 10k in intervals.

Thanks x

You have nearly three weeks to build up to 25 mins of running. If you want to do it. Try a 30 min run with 2.5 min running 2.5 min walking and see what sort of distance you cover. That will give you a good starting point to work out your intervals for your event. Rfc x

You’d be fine. People walk that distance anyway.

Take the advice from Realfoodieclub .... and if in pain in your C25K runs leading up to the event, then pull back and take it carefully.. :)
