10K Run

I started the couch to 5K in Jan this year with the propect of my 54th birthday in July, after a few injuries I finally completed it in Jun. Since then I have been gradually increasing the distance and last night finally ran 10k in a time of 58 mins.

If any one is considering buying a GPS watch I can recommend the new Garmin forerunner 10 it is fairly basic but shows time and distance ran and a few other features and is good value at £100.

What an achievement, well done.

10k is my goal. The Plymouth 10k is next November, so that's realistic (my max so far is nearly 7km)

Any tips for increasing distance, or is literally a case of increasing duration gradually, and the distance will follow?

Thanks

Hi

I decided to increase the distance in 0.5Km steps and ran each one 3 or 4 times usually twice a week . I was up to 7.5 k then a couple of weeks ago I felt good so carried on and did 9k then I just went for it last night

That's brilliant, Dave! I'm slowly trying to get my time down for 5k using the speed and stepping stones podcasts but have yet to tackle the stamina one. I'm slowly coming round to the idea that at some time in the future I might be able to run 10k. Did you use any other podcasts or did you just do what you said and increase your distance bit by bit in the last 5 or 6 months? :)

Well done, Dave; that's a good time for your 10K run. I'm currently resting a gammy leg, but long to get out there doing 10K runs again. Heck, at the moment, I'd love to be able to run 5K!

I, too. like the Garmin FR10; it's clear, simple and comfortable to wear,

Well done, that is a great achievement and a great time! Well done!

Well dome. I am aiming for 10 k in May, and approaching the increase in distance in a very similar way to you.

well done, I got to the 10k mark a couple of weeks ago, I have set of steps on my circuit which i run four times , twice in one direction twice the other, to run down the steps twice felt like a real achievement. The wife bought me a head torch which is fantastic for the winter evenings, it confuses the dogs as well . Stay motivated it's 95% in the head, keep at it.
