Week 8 run 1

Week 8 run 1 done this afternoon on the treadmill. Still surprised that I'm managing these runs but a little deflated by the fact that I'm not managing anywhere near 5k.

With warm up and cool down and the 28mins run i was at about 4.2km, so today I decided to extend the cool down to enable me to reach 5k.... It took 42mins in total, which I am (confusingly) simultaneously pleased and disappointed with!

Confusedly, Michelle.

Your times are OK Shell1712, generally in the later runs most people only time the actual runs, rather than the 5 minute warm up walk before or the 5 minute cool down walk after the run. You are now on 3/28 minute runs, that means irrispective of your pace and the distance covered, just time it for 28 minutes, of course being on a dreadmill you are not covering any distance. 😂

Less than fifteen percent of graduates who responded to this poll healthunlocked.com/couchto5.... ran a sub 30 minute 5k by graduation, so you are in good company.

You are doing great.

It will happen, just give it time. I know its frustrating, especially when you've run your socks off, to finish the 30 minutes and lose that confident "Surely I've done it THIS time" smile, but think about this - did you think that 8 weeks ago, you'd be able to run for so long? Focus on the positives and smile!

Ignore the distance; rejoice in the time! It should really be called “ Couch to 30 minutes”, but that doesn’t quite have the zippy ring to it, does it? However, once you’ve got the 30 minutes consistently there, you’ll find the distance comes. I graduated about 6 weeks ago and am still building up, but I love running and have had no injuries. And when I started, I thought 1 minute might do me in. 😱 Enjoy the process and your undoubted progress and don’t worry. 👏🏼🎉

Haha, that's brilliant! Thanks

Don't worry about your pace. I think I ran 3.7km when I graduated. I am still very slow. but the other week I ran 10 miles (or 16km) and I am happy with that :)
