W7R1 back trouble

I cannot believe how far I've come considering I barely could run for 60seconds only a few weeks ago.... Found out hard tonight the second 25 min run...my lower back felt really sore like it was going to seize and go into spasm. Any tips for how to avoid this, it definitely slowed me down. I always stretch out my back as I'm a long term sufferer, and try to think about my posture xx

Hi Jade,

I suspect that as you are running for longer/further, your core muscles are starting to complain.

Maybe you need to start exercising your core - there are aps and some good videos on YouTube including the plank exercises and the like.

My advice, depending on the severity of the pain is to have a few days rest and then go back to the week where your back was not causing you any pain, and give it a chance to catch up?

As you have a back history, it may also be prudent to see your GP/specialist?

Will look into the added exercises thank you, weirdly my back has felt the best it has in a long time and I put it down to the running loosening everything up but yes thinking about it it sounds like you are right thank you 😊

Are yo doing any back exerices/ stretching as part of your back 'rehabilitation' process?

I do regular exercise to stretch from my physio, my upper back is hypermobile, my lower back is the opposite to compensate.

Okay Jade, my suggestion to you is going back to the week you had no back problems and continue on that run until you have seen your physio and spoken to him/her for guidance. Maybe increase your pace slightly if youcan with out back pain?

Don't stop your running but don't push further on the app and aggravate your pain till you've told her the situation and she advises you on what exercises to do in terms of plan etc.

Our backs are pretty important and complex.

:)
