Running with back ache

Anyone else find that jogging makes their back ache? My back hurts like hell especially as I am starting to run for longer ( I'm on week 6). Don't know whether to continue or not 😟

As you tire it’s easy to let your posture slip. Stay upright and straighten your spine. Keep reminding yourself even if it slows you down a bit. Engage your glutes slightly and you should feel your pelvis straighten up.

Thank you I'll give that a go !

I used to have this, when I first started running. Strengthening my core (with Pilates) and glutes sorted it out! A strong core is crucial, especially on longer runs. x

I also got lower back ache on a few of my runs so have tried to do the plank for short periods everyday to help with core strength and it’s helped. I only manage about 30 seconds though but every little helps ! 😂 Don’t give up though as you have come so far

I've just started a yoga class so I'm hoping this will help - I will definitely try to plank daily ! Thanks for the advice !

Don’t forget child’s pose to stretch the muscles! I find it really helps

Hi, Have you got good running shoes fitted after a gait analysis? The impact of running will travel into your spine. I was having bother until I splurged on mine, a world of difference. As the others say it could be just some core strength you need but proper footwear has been key for me, Good luck!

Planks and bridges!!!!

Runners need good core strength.

Yoga and Pilates will help, and if you go to a class you can do some of the exercises at home too. I didn’t realise how important core strength is.
