Lower back ache requiring some painkillers. Does sprinting at the end do this to you? Not had it before from running.

if you increase your speed you increase impact, especially if you increase your stride length, which often creates heelstriking and increases the mechanical stresses on your body.

Runners need good core strength, especially as distances increase, so any core strengthening exercises you do will be beneficial.

Ah. Umm. So. No exercise other than this for 20+ years. I guess I’m going to need to do some other stuff too? 😱

Being a runner is so much more than making the legs move.

It didn’t say that on the tin. And it didn’t say that I would reach this point and really want to be a runner...! Sigh. Exercise of other kinds it is, then 🤣

Pilates is great for strengthening your back, I was recommended to do it years ago by an osteopath, you could check that out?

I think I will. Thanks for the tip!

I think I'm having the same problem! I had a back spasm after Week 7 R1. Very painful and due probably to not having core muscle strength. So loathe though I am to do Pilates or the like, I am officially obsessed with running so I probably need to do something! Week7 R2 today was lovely in the sun (and i probably did it a day too soon but what the heck - I'm a run addict). Let me know what you find to strengthen your back.

Swim, cycle, climb.... walk... a day's hard gardening.. clean all the windows in the house...blitz the bathroom... squat or just find a great core strength plan to work on :)

Strength and stamina exercises will help...as advised by IannodaTruffe .

Many of us have regular rest day regimes and some of us do these non impact exercises every day :)

The exercise does, I feel need upping too as the runs get longer :) As IT says... this is not just about running:)

It is fun too... so much to choose from :)
