The shop assistant asks me what I have been wearing to run and she looks at me with a glance somewhere between pity and incredulity as I reveal the cheap trainers I have been running in: worn down in many places, negating the need for any kind of gait analysis and paint splattered from the time I glossed the porch in them.
Anyway, as a reward for my parsimony since Christmas and (more importantly) for my completion of C25K for a second time, it was off to Sweatshop to buy some new running shoes. I had to disappoint my firstborn who was convinced it was sweetshop when he saw the sign, although the blow was softened as they had a track he could run around inside.
A little later, fitted in new running shoes, I headed out slush-dodging and experienced what proper runners must feel: trainers that support your feet and provide some cushioning. Anyway, first consolidation run completed, seeing a large number of birds including what I think was a fieldfare.
