Completed week 2 run 1 today. Found both easier and harder than all of week 1. Easier because its less tedious to have longer but less amount of runs than week 1 espcially when i can only run around the car park (its a big car park but time wise i can only run at night or first thing in the morning and im a young woman its not safe to stray further than shouting distance of my home in the dark when alone)

its definitely a struggle running for that period of time even though its only short but i think if i get my breathing in check it would be easier its just impossible to count and run at the same time like the app says

Well done on getting this far and yes, forget about counting breathing. I think the majority of people on the forum found that advice didn't help. If you're getting too out of breath just run slower. You'll find you need to slow down as the runs get longer anyway.

yeah it seems odd advice for someone who has to THINK about running still as theyre knew to it. what im curious about now is if each of the voice over people says the same thing. i've got sarah millican as i find her voice soothing but i wonder if the actual c25k woman says the same thing

Yes Laura says that too - they all work to pretty much the same script. But that advice is for people who are getting out of breath because of poor breathing technique. The truth is most of us, in the early stages of C25k, get out of breath not because of breathing technique but because we run too fast.

lol i run like a snail im not running to fast im just fat

It's always possible to run slower if you need to. Some people run slower than they walk. It's about gait, not speed. Forget about 5k for now - the aim of the programme is to be able to run for 30 minutes and most of us didn't cover 5k in that time. In fact I still can't: I'm very comfortable running 5k now and I've even done 10k a couple of times but my best 5k time is still above 30 minutes.

I found rhythm more helpful than breathing. If you can find a steady rhythm that’s slow enough to be comfortable, your breathing will tend to settle into it too. I’m also a lone female runner and I usually run in daylight - no way you can do that sometimes, to get a change of scene ? All the best x

sadly no i work dawn till dusk so will have to wait for summer for daylight running

That’s a real pity. Maybe on your days off ? Or in meal breaks, if you get proper ones ?

I used to have a job like that. You’re not a care worker, are you ?

Don't fret about the breathing. Sometime later in the program you'll notice it just begins to happen without thinking. Keep taking it slow!

About breathing I agree with Oldishrunner and ButtercupKid, but I still can’t keep the air in from the nose, even if I am in week 9. So I run with my mouth always open, just closing it only if I meet someone because I'm ashamed to look like a fish that gasps!

I’m mainly a mouth breather too. I hope that’ll improve as I get fitter.

I hope so, but if it won’t happen...who cares?😜
