Hi, I'm 58 and nearly finished week 2. I've always enjoyed swimming and walking, but don't have a good pool near me so I thought I'd try running just to see if I can. I'm doing it on the treadmill at 7k/hr as I know I won't do it in the dark and cold. My main worry is whether my Achilles' tendon will cope as I had surgery after tearing it 7 years ago. Any advice or encouragement would be welcome.

Welcome... check out this link please:) Loads of advice:)

I tore my Achilles tendon ... a few years back... no worries... and if there are twinges.. a heel support may help:)

Take it slow and take it steady... and keep posting too...Keep up your walking and swimming on rest days too!

Well done you!!!

Welcome. Just take it nice and slowly and be alert of any twinges from the Achilles. Hopefully it’s not a problem. Well done so far and enjoy the journey.

58 is the best age to do this. ( I'm 58, ha ha). Not sure about the achilles repair, is it worth a quick chat with your doctor to see if she/ he thinks its a good idea (apparently my surgery has a skeleto-muscular clinic so maybe yours does too). If there is scar tissue your achilles may be shorter or tighter but a medic would be the best place to get advice. Hopefully they'll say something like see how it goes.

You're right, I think I have some scarring so it might be worth getting checked out. There's no such clinic, but I work in the health service so I can find a physio that might advise me
