First run

I’ve just completed my first run in so long. I really struggled but made it. I can’t see how it can get better, it just seems so hard. I suffer with chronic back pain but have been told by my doctor that I won’t damage my back by running. He did warn me that it would hurt though. Dreading tomorrow.

Hopefully you’re dreading tomorrow as in aches and not as in running, tomorrow is rest day.

Great job getting through that first run, it’s a very difficult thing to do.

Take some exercises tomorrow, the idea is to not run but to do anything else to increase fitness and/or strength and to keep the legs loose... and in your case your back too.

Enjoy the next run.

Yes I was dreading waking up with aches and pains but so far so good. My next run is scheduled for tomorrow. Thanks for the advice, I might get on the exercise bike today then.

Great advice from UNM. Keep your pace slow and avoid tilting your head forward.

I have had back problems in the past (it never completely goes away) and I am rarely in any persistent pain but I feel for you.

Keep smiling 😸

Welcome to the forum and well done on getting started.

This guide to the plan is essential reading healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and it explains the pace you should be running.

You were too fast.

How do I know?

Because everyone is at the start.

Don't dread runs or you will not complete the process........... relax, slow down and enjoy your journey.

Hello well done for starting. I have back problems too but have found the pain has significantly reduced even over the last two weeks. Keep going well done. You are doing so much better than you realise. Xx
