Well I woke at 5.30 to go running, leapt out of bed to go running with a spring in my step...... then I woke up really and realised id gone back to sleep and it was nearly 9. Got up and felt that my left calf was still stiff . It was stiff when I woke yesterday hence me leaving the run till today. But instead I’d driven all down to Heligan to the Lost Gardens ( they were lost again yesterday too due to a diversion that has one sign and then “nothing..... find it yourself mate”), then clambered about all over said Gardens with my son in a glorious summer day so no wonder it was still a big stiff. But I’m not giving in so I did my dynamic stretches, ate my banana, glugged a pint of water and off I went,
You know those days where nothing goes right??? I thought it was going to be one of those.
I managed to do the multi skilled bit on starting off...
-Set timer on Garmin watch
-click for GPS
-click again to switch it on
- then switch on podcast and wait for Laura to stop waffling and say start walking and simultaneously press the start button on watch timer
And off I go.....
Normal route, just going up over the slope to cross the road and the song speeds up. Strange I thought I don’t remember this bit? Perhaps it’s the last chorus but ready for the end of track?
I don’t know any of Laura’s choice of ‘choons’ so I wait till the next one, still plodding along, then the second one started belting out really fast and I though this can’t be right so I get my phone out of the pocket of my lovely new shocking pink Fitbelt, and try turning the podcast off and on again. Still really fast. Came out of the Podcast bit, back in, switched it off and on again, still the same then I notice in very tiny font to the left of the screen, bottom left corner 2X.
I click this and it changes to 1/2X, again and it goes to 1X.
Somehow it had decided I wanted it twice as fast!!!!! So by this time my brisk walk has slowed to a stumble and I’m all out of synch with myself. So I thought “ sod it, let’s just get it over with!” And carried on!
So off I went ....started running when Laura said and it seemed to be going quite nicely , calf wasn’t hurting and neither was anything else so I settled into it and was about 5 mins I to my run feeling pretty good actually and suddenly was overtaken by a young girl runner and left for dead nearly. She was there and then gone!!! Must have been doing about a 4 minute mile I think. Anyway I was quite comfortable and glanced at watch to check my pace and was doing 9.14 bit fast for me at a start but it felt comfortable so I carried on. I managed 3 circuits of my normal route and then the lady who was cleaning her front door meticulously kept looking up and saying “good morning “ “ you again?” “ blimey”.
I managed to gasp out “ last time “ on the third round, with a sense of achievement.
Ended up finishing well, little spurt of speed in the last minute , ( I had slowed down a bit by the third circuit though) but still felt I had a bit of oomph left in me when I started my warm down.
All in all glad I went now one rest day and I’m off to Bridgwater so me and my daughter can run our Graduation Runs together. Cannot wait.
