I use Strava simply because my friend uses it. He recommended it and since it allows tracking for running, cycling and swimming it's great for his triathlon training. I've also used MapMyRun, MapMyWalk, Endomondo, Runkeeper and Fitbit. Every one of them has drawbacks. Mostly the GPS is the biggest issue, stop tracking mid-run or map off, distance often out too. Strava so far has been most accurate and only failed when clashing with Fitbit app linked to my phone's GPS. Think the problem lies with conflict with trying to use GPS for more than one app. Runkeeper pairs with Fitbit so although I hadn't been using it, my mileage racked up anyway. Like you, I'd love to find the perfect app. One that is accurate, doesn't drop during a run, there is possibly nothing worse for a runner. Stepping in dog poo might even be preferable 🤣 I'll be following this post with interest. Meantime, enjoy the programme and your progression.

I’m Strava too, I like the simplicity

Map My Run for me, didn’t fancy Strava as it's a bit too performance oriented for me. But I do agree it seems better on GPS. Mr JCR uses Strava for cycling and its v popular in that community, but even so he and fellow cyclists have problems with it. Not sure there is a ‘perfect’ app

Runkeeper allows you to programme intervals.

Endomondo will pick out your fastest 1,3,5, 10k from a run, not just split laps. It also tracks PBs nicely.

Strava is good for comparison with total strangers via its segment feature.

They are all only as good as the hardware on which they are running and a dedicated GPS running watch will invariably be more accurate.

Oh really? I didn't know that, that's useful. Endomondo, that's a phone app right? Or can you link a Garmin to it?

I tried mapmyrun and after tonight it got binned, haven’t tried run keeper yet. But I do like strava it hasn’t really let me down so far

Tonight ( for fun?) I used fitbit and map my run. My sister used Strava. They all were more or less the same maps and distance covered. But all had different times. We were faster with Strava and 25 seconds slower a km with fitbit. Map my run was in the middle.

So I guess stick with one and if you want to compare times / distances you can.

I'm not sure how accurate our test was though. Didn't start or stop them at exactly the same time....

I’ve used mapmyrun from the start and it’s not let me down yet. Accuracy can waiver a bit but not massively. Tried strava but went back to mmr. Only used the free versions so I don’t know what the upgrades are like.

I use Strava as I cycle as well so can switch from one to the other. 😊

Strava for me mainly because quite a few friends use it. Tried MapMyRun - prefer the extra stats and stuff from Strava.

Strava any day over MapMyRun. naedoot had a bit of an incident with MMR, getting actual distances so wrong it was funny and then really not funny.

But Matt. You don't really want some dodgy app. You want a proper HRM with bells and whistles and data. You really really do. You're a runner now and need shiny new kit. At least weekly.

I'm loving my Polar M400 (I think updated now). Does endless cool things and a lot less temperamental than other gadgets I've used in the past. I'd never trust Garmin again, but that's a personal thing. Automatically links to Strava too.

Go shopping Matt. Go shopping...... :-)

My wife (bless her) bought a new Coach handbag yesterday. So we boys need to even up the game. Go shopping Matt.....

I have garmin forerunner 235 had no issues with it - only reason it’s not being used is because I’m using my Apple Watch. Never had any issues with any of my garmin units

Last Garmin i had was too chunky. And ugly. And the PC agent was really flaky. Had no issues with my Polar. And 10% of the price of a Coach handbag 😁

I use a bit of everything lol! I have a Garmin watch, you can link it to Strava, MapMyRun, and Smashrun, and probably others too. You get different stats from all of them.... sad? Moi? lol!
