Well what a strange week!! Did my 2nd run on Sunday with no problems then had my sore foot while out for a stroll with my son that evening. It felt like I was walking in a large pebble every step. I really thought I was going to be out of action for a while.
I soaked it in Epsom salts, rubbed Voltarol in, and later Arnica ointment too. I elevated it and I still could not put any weight on it at all before bedtime. I was struggling to walk with a stick even!! My Pilates coach said “have you tried the relaxing foot massage we do ?” but I couldn’t bear to handle or move it much so no I hadn’t!!
Went to bed that night not sure if I’d sleep very much but was out like a light.
I woke yesterday morning and my foot was a bit uncomfortable but I could at least stand on it. I limped about gently and stretched and flexed it through the morning and generally rested and pottered about. By the afternoon it was fine and today nothing to show for it but a huge bruise on the top of my foot from the ankle to halfway down and all the way across from side to side. No pain at all.... so I did run3 about 11.00am today.
I put an ankle support on but didn’t have any problems at all. I didn’t run full pelt but only about 10 seconds a mile slower overall. And strangely, it was one of the easiest runs I’ve had, my breathing was good and effortless, my legs felt great, and to cap it all my last 3 mins of my run was a circuit of the local park, and a new PB shaving 12 secs off previous time. I felt amazing on my 5 mins warm down walk.
Really thought I’d be on the bench for a week or so. I can only think I must have run onto a stone and not noticed and bruised it. Well chuffed with my recovery AND my run !!!
