Week 9 Run 1

So I completed 20 mins of this run with relative ease but then had a really sudden energy drop where my legs felt like lead and I didn’t feel good and my heart was racing. Decided as I was in the woods alone that it may be better to make my way back home walking. Really disappointed as this is the first run I have had to walk. Not sure if this has anything to do with that time.... maybe any ladies out there can let me know??? Do I carry on to run 2 next or repeat this one? So disappointed 😔

Sorry to hear about that. I hope you're feeling better now. Perhaps a sudden drop of sugar in your blood? You were right to walk and don't be disappointed: you've run 20 mns! I don't know what to advise you but take some rest before your next run (obviously) and eat well (meat for iron; or chickpeas and lentils if you're vegetarian). If it's that time as you say, I sometimes feel it that I need to eat richer food (liver, black pudding). Not very good for a lean diet I know but I just feel my body needs it. And concerning your next run: it's week 9, so it'll be 30 mns. See how you feel when you try again. You'll decide after if you want to repeat. But you've made it that far and there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to finish. Take it slow and easy for now.

Thanks could possibly be. It has knocked my confidence a bit as I have suffered with anxiety in the past and am very aware of any physical symptoms. Will take a few days rest and try again probably quite apprensively. It’s a shame because up until that point it was going so well!

Do not worry: we all have tough days! I just came back from my first postgrad run (30mns) and it was less easy as W9R3. Do you think you might have that "graduation" day apprehension? I mean a bit like you are leading the match and it's the matchpoint but you feel all the pressure to conclude and win? Focus on now (and the good runs you've had)... Rest and relax. Have a lovely Sunday!

I've had that happen, where a part of my run that is tricky but I was getting better at, I suddenly had to walk. I gave it a couple of days rest, repeated the run and completed it. It left me wondering what was so different about that particular run, but I have learnt to accept what my body tells me and slow down or walk when I feel I need to. I thonk I took a much slower pace on the next one.I just rename them 'interval runs' instead. A run is a run after all! 😉 I hope your next one is a bit easier on you.

Ah thank you glad to hear it’s not just me then that’s reassuring

If it was a one-off don't worry about it, odd things happen to our bodies from time to time. After all they do have a lot to put up with 😀.

Have your rest day(s) and do your next run. Don't forget to go slow and steady. Perhaps a different route for the next one if possible, just to take the "this is where it started" out of the equation. However, and without making a 'thing' of it, if it's something you experience again then obviously time to get checked out - but odds on you won't need to!

Best wishes for your graduation, it's sooooo close now.

Thank you for the sensible advice. I have tried to go through the run in my head and think maybe I had run it faster without realising this who knows? Will try and keep positive and try not to let this one experience affect my last runs. I have accidentally run 38 mins before when my tech failed in week 8 Run 1 and was very tired after it. Fingers crossed it’s a one off and the next run will cancel this blip

Hi Amarigue1976 , i was looking iut for you, think there is a combination of maybe starting off too fast & certainly ladies time can drain our energy! Everyone of us even established runners have an off day but my goodness give yourself a HUGE pat on the back!!!! You have done a marvellous job getting out there, now at week9 wow!!!! Give yourself that rest days and then just get back out there as you are a star & have kept me going too!! Unfortunately ive still to do last run in w8 as came home from hols with a dreadful chesty cold & was going to go out last night night but heavy rain so thought it was silly as not clear of cold! Im determined il finish again & remind myself only 4 runs left!! We will make that podium 😊👍

Ah thank you. I have taken some time off since my bad run on Sunday as I’ve been feeling under the weather. I think in hindsight I was coming down with a virus as I’ve been extremely achy and drained with a temperature and think my body is definitely trying to fight something off so will try to repeat the run on the weekend if I’m feeling better. Good luck with your next run you can do it. Just make sure your right before you run is hate you to feel how I did on Sunday it really knocks your confidence. We will get there but need to be kind to our bodies and make sure we’re right first. Doesn’t matter how long it takes if we get there 👍

Il be right alongside you & you are so sensible to listen to your body i did same as still fighting my cold i did go out & managed my w8r3 very slow but completed it ! Just off for a nice long soak in the bath 😊but i have decided also to listen to my body & if i need two days rest i will take it & also depends on weather as it was horrendous rain here last night & thats why i thought id leave it till tonight as dry but cold! You take care & il see you at the finish line👍😊

Definitely! we have come too far to let all the hard work and determination go to waste! What do you think you’ll do after graduation will you keep repeating week 9 for consolidation?

Pc59 profile image
Pc59Graduate in reply to Amarigue1976

You are so right we have come a long way since w1 😊i am going to repeat week 9 a few times but try & incorporate a few more inclines, as i have been varying my routes on these longer runs as the time seems to pass quicker as i am too busy looking for roads to turn up it stops me thinking on the time😂. I think hils/ inclines will increase our stamina for longer runs. Then my next aim is the 5k as I won’t get to 5k in 30mins! Id like to add a couple of extra mins on to the weekend run in daylight to help get me to 5k! Last time my best 5k was 44mins so it will take a lot to get me to 30mins😂but for my age im just chuffed to be out running as never ran before!! Id like to maintain 3times a week too! A lot of plans😂😂just need to keep going with motivation now!

Please don't be disappointed! It sounds like you did the right thing! Who knows what it was, it could have been any number of things, but put it down to, this was a bad run. You will have better ones. Keep going. The finish line is in sight for you!
