FAILURE AND DISAPPOINTMENT!!

Well that was a bad run. I ran for 4 min 45 secs each of the 5 min runs. I just get to a point where I’m gasping for breath. I can ride a bike for 30 miles but can’t run 5 minutes, to say I’m gutted is an understatement 🤬🤬🤬😡😡😡

That’s not a failure, it’s a stepping stone. You didn’t do it this time but keep at it and you’ll make it!!

in reply toThriftyvickie

Thank you. I’m just gutted. If I have to repeat this week 10 times I will get there.😢

Hi Steve, I was much the same and would be almost in tears in wk3 due to being so out of breath.

I asked for some advice on here, and realised I was going too fast. I slowed right down and haven't looked back, though still not easy...

Good luck

in reply toGetagrip2018

I can’t go any slower. I’m 21st in weight so I know that is a big factor but it’s so demoralising when you are so close yet so far away from your goal. Gutted☹️

I thought I couldn't go any slower, but turns out I could, you just really need to concentrate on it.

I'm sure I look ridiculous, but it's better than sitting on my fat bum at home!

Keep positive and you'll get there👍🏻

There is ALWAYS slower.... :)

Slow down to a conversational pace, as per instructions.

Not a failure Steve...you ran for 4 mins 45 seconds twice and two lots of 3 mins..thats a lot of running...

Keep at it, you will get there...look back to when you started and be proud of yourself.😊xx

You can do it Steve, dont stop just slow more.

I deleted my reply as I realised that Bluebirdrunner had said it so much better 🤩

But I will say again, it’s always possible to go a bit slower.

15 seconds. So what. I’d say you’ve done it. I remember being quite fit when I cycled to the gym, did three classes, then cycled home. But I still couldn’t run passed 2 mins. It’s a totally different skill! You once could barely do one minute. Now you’ve practically done 5. So do W4R3 once more and then move on. I bet you’re like me when on each run you’re saying in your head “I can’t do it, I can’t do it”. But we can. Each run is developing your legs and lungs for more.

You will not know yourself Steve,do not beat yourself up.

Look what you are putting in the bank between your bike and running.

Better weather is here.🤔👏👏

In a couple of months you will be running for 30 minutes also and your body will be so much stronger.🌟👏👏

Are you happy with your blood sugar levels🤔🌟👏👏

in reply toTbae

Being type 2 diabetic coz I’m fat, I try to check it often and I have been within normal range for a while. I just hate it when I start something and fall at the first hurdle. I will bounce back (not a fat joke) and conquer 5 minutes then move onto 8 minutes😆

You have not fallen.... you had a stumble... many, many folk feel like this... we are right beside you..( I am the one whispering slow and steady... you can do this!!!

Don’t be so hard on yourself man. You’ll get there. With every run your legs get a little stronger, your body adjusts. There’s no time score on this.

Hi Fatsteve, don’t beat yourself up, just take it slowly, slowly, and believe you can do it. I think the first few weeks are actually the hardest, but your body will adapt and get stronger steadily, and don’t think of less good as failure, think of them as training! I tell myself if I don’t do it one time I’ll just do it again until I can. Also I am convinced breathing gets easier when you start to run for longer, the first 10/15 minutes are the worst and if you just keep going eventually you hit a good place and can just keep going, so don’t give up, believe you can do it and you can ( very Waterbabies!):-))

Thank you SusieHicks😊

Don’t be disappointed 4 minutes 45 seconds is still great! I can also cycle for miles but with cycling you get a break on the downhills and recover ready to go again. I’m only on week 3 of c25k but it is definitely different to cycling 😬 you will get there 😀

Thank you Bridget😊

Hi Hidden , i see you set yourself high standards; nothing wrong with that but you should also give yourself praise for what you have achieved. Some people haven’t made it to week 4; you have, and you can ride a bike for 30 miles!

I couldn’t run before I started this plan. I’ve had runs where I stopped during the first minute and walked for a bit and, as suggested by the very knowledgeable admins here, I re-did a run where I was 2 minutes short of the target (2 minutes not 15 seconds) but hey next week I’ll be starting week 7!

Give it one more go, slow it right down - the slower the better - then move on. Please let us know how it goes, we’re all cheering you along 👏🏽

No room for the 'f' word on here.

Bet you couldn't run 4 mins 45 seconds when you started this mad running journey. If you can do 4 mins 45 secs you can do 5 minutes - just slow down a bit a believe that you can.

Can't wait to hear about you cracking it! 😊

Steve don’t get dis-spirited. You know that you are doing so much better then a couple of weeks ago.

I know you don’t think you can go any slower but I heard of someone who was overtaken by an old lady walking a dachshund 😄!!

Good luck.

No failure we never ‘eff’ on here. You were establishing a benchmark that’s all. It was a 15 second deficit, you may just have started off too quickly, it often happens. No sweat just give it another go, nice and slow and you’ll be fine. Honest 😇

Your can do attitude will get you through, you did your best and I'm sure the next session will conquer it. 😊

misswobble profile image

Oh ruddy eck! Very frustrating for you Steve but don’t give up. you’ll nail these runs 💪

As you slowly do the sessions you will get stronger. You can stop for a breather whenever you need to you know. Stopping for a breather can save the run! You let your breathing return to a regular rhythm and then jog on

Try not to be anxious. Also,be sure to do proper warm up walk. Take longer over it if needs be 🙂

You’ll crack it don’t worry 💪👍🙂🏃‍♂️

How are those ribs? Have they healed properly yet? If you are protecting them you will not be letting your lungs take in as much air as you might need, that could possible lead you to feel like you are gasping. It is still early days after an injury like that be kind to yourself and appreciate you will get there at your own pace and In Your own time, it is a journey not a race. Listen to the advice above and remember you are off that couch, you still did 4min 45 secs more than you were doing before you stared.

in reply toRealfoodieclub

Thanks for askin about the ribs. Been to the docs and found out I have muscular bruising too (very tender around my left side) so when I think I have stitch, it’s not that it’s the ribs. I will get there though.

I have you guys on my side😊

It's funny. When we start the 60 seconds seems impossible. I laughed at the idea of running 5 minutes when I started. But then we move through the program and all of a sudden get upset if we miss a target once.

You are doing great. Absolutely great. I've been running 4 years now and some days I still deflate a few minutes in. No matter. A run is a run, some days it doesn't go as planned. You can analyze it to death, but there are so many variables (how fast, what did you eat, time of day, stress levels, temperature.. ) that you may get no answers. The solution is just to get out there and do it again, you'll likely ace it.

In the event I need a mental boost for my next run I'll try a new route or new music to lift the spirits.

Happy running.

It’s much more than I can manage yet. Keep at it, mate.

Exactly what everyone else is saying. You've done way better than me - I haven't even started yet! The only way you fail is by not starting in the first place. We all have good & bad days. Hang in there - you've got this. X

No ' f' words please! Blip. practice, trial run.. but never a f*** :)

Just slow right down and then slow down more...If you are gasping for breath you are moving too fast... relax and just take it really gently :)

Think snail on a go slow:)

You may be disappointed but it's not a failure - more like a practice run. You ran a lot and I bet next time you'll run for a bit longer. As everyone says, slow down some more if possible. You can do it and we are all running with you - and want to know how you get on. Good luck. 👍💪

I ran a post graduation stepping stone run today, designed for graduates. It was so slow!!! I didn’t think I could run any slower but I had to to stay with the music beat. But my breathing was noticeably easier as I was less stressed.

You can go slower if you have to. Make sure your feet fall below your body. Not in front. If they do, you’re stretching out too far. It’s almost like jogging on the spot. But you will move forward. And the time ticks away just the same.....but you’re slower.

Disappointed? yes. Failed? No. You haven’t. You’re doing just fine.

Have a few days rest Steve. You’ll be surprised what that will do for you. You’re subconscious will be mulling it over and your body will not let you down if you stick to the plan. Then you’ll surprise yourself.

You’re doing fine. You really are!! 👍🏼
