First run post graduation

Hello all!

So 2 days after my 5k graduation I had a bicycle accident and bruised 3 ribs. They felt much better this last week so thought I’d go for a run today.

After a mile I had to stop as my legs were killing and I just couldn’t catch my breath.

It’s only been three weeks, surely I can’t have lost all that fitness already - or perhaps my body was just screaming for me to give it a rest!

Tips and advice on getting back into it would be most appreciated.

Much love

Sad runner x

I'm sure it's just body being exhausted after your cycle crash. Those things really knock the wind out of you. I'd give yourself a few more days rest and try again. 👍

Well... not a great idea to run, even though the ribs are just bruised..

After I broke mine...it was a while before I ventured out.. ( I used my cross trainer, no resistance), to keep moving, but that was after the first week of no running.

We are not medical experts, but the advice, even for bruised ribs, is rest up a little with non impact exercise.

Be kind to yourself.. and rest up a little longer. ( I am assuming you were checked out to make sure that there is no break in the ribs? )

Even though I have broken my ribs before... ( climbing accident) I went and got checked out)

Hey old floss, yep I went and had an X-ray at the time.

I’ve had three weeks of no running. I Thought today might be my day to get back out there!

My ribs were ok (pain wise) i just couldn’t catch my breath. Wonder if it’s because I haven’t done much for a few weeks?

Just maybe a lot more bruised than you thought.. ease up a little.. and see how you go :)

Fitness does not fade that quickly..but just build back up slowly :)

Must be! Good to know.

I’ll leave it a while and try again!
