I went out very cautiously tonight - still wrestling with the persistent cold that made my graduation run so miserable.
I have decided to spend a few weeks consolidating my 30 minute runs on 2 of my 3 runs and experiment with "beginners intervals" on the other. Tonight I did my snail gambolling along the prom - salt is good for sinuses right?!! After the usual warm up, I did 15 mins run & 2 mins brisk walk twice then another 3 min run before cool down. ( This final 3 min run is going to gradually grow into a third 15 min.) This resulted in 0.03 under 5k π - I would have scampered a little further had I realised! Still a bit tired and grotty, but a lot better than the last time.
Happy weekend and running π

O well done you & sounds like a good sensible plan post graduation il be saving this postππive started incorporating slight hillsπin my last few runs to help build stamina i hopeπ
" Tackling slight hills" - yes!!π I have been doing that for about 3 weeks now and they have changed from a struggle to ok as long as I go very slow. Avoiding a stitch seems to be my pace regulator atm - hope that goes away.
Impressive!! Well done! I may follow your plan. But still struggling with my cold too, so if I go out tomorrow morning, will try to snail gambol for 20 mns or longer if I feel fine. What's your programme? Because I figure if you aim to run 45 mns, you might try to go for 10k. It sounds like you can do it!
I'm not exactly sure have a 'program' - I am more in a place of... end of C25K is my springboard and I will see what that develops into - but I definitely have a few hopes. π
Hope 1: that 30 mins continuous running becomes easier & then the time extended gradually.
Hope 2: To try a Park run & be faster than walking pace π. I would like to get into a pattern of doing the park run as one of my 3 runs each week.
Hope 3: See where the run for 15, walk for 2 pattern takes me. This idea came from a post someone put up a few weeks ago about Jeff Galloway who suggests this - you can see his ideas on line.
I would love to get to 10K but that seems a very long way off. π
Sounds really good!! I'll check the post by Jeff Galloway, thank you. For me park runs are too intimidating, plus I prefer to run on my own for the moment. I've got a friend who'd be willing to run with me but she's so fit that I hesitate and she doesn't want to conform to training sessions or having "a voice" telling her what to do. She can run as long as she likes, which I can't do lol! Anyway, hope 1 for you looks as very close to be fulfilled!
The only worry I have about the Jeff Galloway idea, is that I could easily tell myself that I can only run for 15 mins -which is absurd when I have already run for longer during C25K. Also the shorter times that I ran in the earlier weeks have only felt increasingly okay as I have run for longer. I suspect that running for 30 will feel okay when I am running for 40 mins - it's just in my head - so stupid!!! I'll have to flatten those gremlins! π
