Hello from a newbie

Hi I’ve just started week 5 having reached the grand age of 66 before embarking on this adventure! Hope I can make it to week 9 and beyond although I have to admit it seems a daunting target at the moment. I have surprised myself by feeling quite good at the end of each session and not struggling but then I am only running for 5 minutes at a time 😁

Hello and welcome Cash2412.

Well done on your achievement so far.

Your training programme, C25k, prepares you for each next run. So of course you can do this 👍🏼😃🏃🏼‍♀️

Don’t forget, from now on this training requires you to dig deep psychologically as well as physically, so try to choose and maintain a positive ‘’I can do this!’ approach for every run, to help you through. No room here for negative......’I’m not sure I can do it’ thoughts.....try to push them well away.

There are a lot of us more mature runners on this forum so you are in good company!

I think everyone finds the targets daunting because we've never asked our bodies to do anything like this before. And we still look at them from the "couch potato" image we have of ourselves before we started.

But you're now running for 15 minutes in total. So you've already come a long way. And you feel good...

Well done!

It does sound rather regimental the way some talk, but it isn't really, as it'll be natural to get some negative thoughts, that's the way a lot of us are, as you do become fitter and keep up the excercise these thoughts do get less, push on through any mind gremlins and remember keeping the pace slow and steady is important and key to you remaining injury free and off the injury couch..😊

Thanks Dave I’m sure with the support of you guys I’ll make it. You’re right about the slow pace. The first couple I went off too fast and almost gave up. Now I’ve slowed down to a gentle jog I’m doing much better
