Week 9 Run 3 - Well I've only gone and done it!

It was this morning and it went well. Got to 30 mins, then kept on for another 3 ( I know I shouldn't have but I was feeling good!) to get the 5k done.

So.. heres the thing for me. A few weeks ago I could make a couple of hundred metres without stopping. Now a whole 5000!

Thankyou all for your encouragement and especially mentors old floss and ianodatruffe. Also thanks MJ!

Lots of good posts which are fun to read, my favourite being the poster who used the phrase "Running into my Thoughts". Great!

So what have I learned so far:

1. I am still a beginner but have a growing addiction to this.

2. Invest early in good shoes. It's really beneficial.

3. If you are hurting then slow down.

4. Listen to your body not the doubting voice. You know the one " Not sure I'm going to do this" " I could always give up and try again tomorrow" "You're not really a runner" etc.

Woo hoo is all I can childishly say. Oh and. " What do I do to get my badge?"

What next? My son ( he of 22 years and two marathons) is down this weekend and has suggested we do a park run. I think that is on the cards.

Thanks all, and as they say on X factor " It's been a journey"

Fantastic! Well done 😁 I know that whispering voice of doubt too well. Fair play for not listening!

Thanks a lot. Yep its important to tell the voice to go away. of Shut the Something Up! Good luck with your running. Fun isn't it?

Still sort of more in love with the idea of running than actually running I think. I struggle to make myself go (but am always delighted afterwards!) Today I had my grandson and couldn't go first thing and it's really thrown me. My husband suggested the treadmill tonight, but I forgot in all the fuss if getting grandson and dinner sorted and only thought of it now when I saw your message 😶. Have had a glass of wine now so won't risk falling off treadmill! Tomorrow is another day and yes, it is fun, and I'm going to stick with it. Congratulations again ☺

OK sounds like life got in the way of running which it should do. I've had a more selfish week as my wife has been away visiting friends. Which reminds me I do need to tidy up before she gets back! I do though agree that the hardest step is just getting out of the door to go and do it.

Take care

Yes! Tomorrow my plan is to let nothing get in the way of a run first thing. There was some good planning in giving us 7 days in the week to allow for a slip up like today and working Sunday. If I run tomorrow and Saturday I'll still get week 3 done!

Happy tidying and enjoy your park run ( I can't wait to be able to run with my son and daughter at Christmas!)

All noted. I think the pace of the training is about right as is the advice to take a day off if you are feeling sore. We are doing this for fun ( and health) reasons after all. I'll let you all know how the running goes. Happy start in the morning!

I think he's a bit surprised TBH. Our other son who now lives in Rotterdam was impressed although tbh he was being very charming as he's running 5k at 5min per km not 630! But then he is 25 years old!
