So, I graduated 2 weeks ago and have been running 30 mins 3 times a week since. But today was special for me, as I finally hit that elusive (to me) 5k!
Woke up bright and early and relaxed with a coffee and big glass of water. Not feeling 100% as I have a mild cold, and my hip had started niggling a wee bit again. Meh. But, having not run since Weds, coupled with the fact the sun was shining, I was itching to go out. I told myself I would try for a very slow 20 mins, and if at any point I felt awful, I would stop.
Mummycav inspired me with her longer warm ups, so I did 10 mins of brisk walking instead of 5, and some gentle stretches after. Then I ran! Slowly, but steadily. My legs felt good, hip felt okay, and no sign of my hacking cough. After the 20 min mark I decided to go on, as I felt so good, and I actually ran for 34 mins in the end, hitting 5.05k! Couldn't believe it! Totally expected this run to be a total doozie. Huh!
Hot bath now - sure I'll suffer for it later but it felt so good. Even caught up with my running nose...
Happy Sunday dear running pals.

Thanks dear HITC! I feel more elated about this than graduating - am I weird? 🤔 Plans for the rest of the day mostly involve the couch and a movie. Have a lovely Sunday my lovely. x
No, not weird at all. You were expecting Chariots of Fire on your graduation run, it didn't happen 😔 You went out today without a thought that you'd hit 5K, but you did. Huge bonus and massively uplifting (considering you'd been unwell and have had issues with that pesky hip).
Hunker down on the sofa and enjoy your movie with a big happy smile and that lovely feeling of satisfaction. Enjoy 😘
...or you could come and help me fit my kitchen worktops... ??? 😂😂
Wow...well done Sadie...beautifully done..so glad your hip is ok, proper rest for a couple of days now eh? Glad the longer warm up works for you too...it’s made a real difference for me. Enjoy your victory bath & a contented Sunday 😊 xx
Thank you MC! You see, this is where this forum totally works. I read your post about taking a longer warm up and have been mulling it over since. Totally worked for me too! So big hug and a thank you to you, darling, you have helped me in my running. Victory bath (great phrase!) was bliss. Hope you are doing well. 😘
Sounds like a great run and an impressive time too! And all with a cold?! Imagine what you'll do when you are back in good health... you can have a nice rest today and revel in your running glory!
She was the best! LOVED those old tv shows... and the Bionic Man was just mind blowing.... until you watch it again now! Lee Majors.... my hero .... even though he looks well over 50 with a possible corset underneath his top!!
Thanks Elizabeth! You have been one of my inspirations on here, and have loved reading your posts.
Sorry you are poorly too. I was on day 3 of my cold, so on the mend a bit. Plus not feeling too awful. You stay home cosy in the warm if you are feeling rough. That 6k can wait for you. (But totally get how frustrating it is when you cannot get out when planned). Get well soon my dear. x
Yay well done!! I need to go out this aft but am so bloody cold after remembrance service that I can’t feel any of my extremities as yet!! Will see how I feel after a nice cuppa!!
