First 5k race .. done.

I really enjoyed my first official race even though I was so nervous beforehand. I managed to get my food on point so I didn't run out of steam and ran well. There was a killer hill just over half way where we had to run up the path from the prom to the top of the cliffs. Ran half and then had to walk but most did tbh. I didn't do my sub 30 mins which I was disappointed with as I felt I ran faster than I do for park run but finished in 32:32.

One thing I will say is that it felt more like a fun run atmosphere which was good but I would have preferred a more serious approach. I think they could have staged the start a bit better. Everybody queued on a first come basis and as it was chip timed there was no need for the people who were nordik walking to be near the front. I spent the first 1k weaving trying to get past people.

Am going to take some time now to work on technique and try to improve my breathing for a start. I thought that 5k would be my final destination but am already running 6k naturally so can see me extending to 10k over time lol

My next one is a fancy dress halloween 5k which I will be happy to just finish in a horror clown costume and makeup lol

Well done! Sounds like a great time considering the killer hill.

Hallowe'en race sounds brilliant - you'll have to take lots of photos!

Well done, especially after all your doubts, and a pretty decent time despite all the dawdlers 😊 (ps your post brings back happy childhood memories of trips to see "the lights" every year)

Well done! How annoying about the start. It should at least be split into sections of runners and walkers. Bigger races have colour coded waves. So the Manchester 10k in May, you have to put an estimate time and they use this to group people in to waves with the quicker waves starting first. Elite group starts the race then first wave etc. If you think you could go to 10k why not sign up? Guessing you're NW based with running in Fylde. That's my target. Planning on doing the bridge to 10k after the new year. X
