First 5K

Perhaps I should have done my first 5K at a Parkrun, but there are no parkruns anywhere near to where I live, however, after graduating on 18th June and running 5 post graduating runs, this morning after rerunning some of the C25K program due to a sore hip and being on IC I ran my first 5K this morning in a time of 34 minutes and 21 seconds, I am quite pleased about that time as I was hoping to do it under 35 minutes based on the time I ran my grad run and a few post consolidation runs.

Brilliant AM! Fabulous time too. 👏👏👏 The first 5k is a wonderful landmark, and you should be very proud of that achievement, especially after your stint on the IC. 👍

What a shame there’s no parkrun near you. Maybe one will be introduced eventually?

My Parkrun PB is 34.19, so you almost beat me at your first 5Km attempt. You would run faster at Parkrun too, the pace is infectious. But well done! Well off the IC now.👣👣👣👣👣👣

Perhaps I would run even faster at a parkrun, but there are no parkruns 🏃anywhere near to where I live and I don't have a car. I am glad to know that you have resumed your parkrun schedule on a Saturday morning. 😊

Well done on your 5k . It's feeks great for slower runners like myself when it finally happens .you are faster then me . 😀

Don't worry about the speed Tinker5393, when I graduated 🎓and when I ran about 5 consolidation runs,🏃 my pace was fairly consistent but I always stopped running 🏃at exactly 30 minutes, so this morning😊 I hoped, based on those times to run a 5K in a little under 35 minutes which I managed. Thanks for congratulating me, much appreciated 👍

Well done!! I think that’s a fantastic achievement especially after a stint on the IC. You should be very proud :)

A running milestone!

Or is that 3.1 milestones?

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate in reply toIannodaTruffe

Yes IannodaTruffe, 3.1 milestones, seems longer in miles than kilometers. The milestone runs are W5R3, W9R3, and the first time you run a 5K like I ran non stop this morning. It was the first run of all the runs on C25K that I felt really shattered at the end, perhaps as I was trying to do a sub 35 minute run which I achieved (34.21). When I ran W5R3 and my graduation run of week 9 I quickened my pace over the last 50 metres but this morning I just got over the finishing line feeling very tired but 😊 happy.

It is a great feeling Ang³333333333(lol all those 3:s. 😊I have added a few more for luck) I am very happy 😊for achieving running 🏃a full 5K non stop this morning☺️👍 , it should have been about 6 weeks ago but due to my hip getting sore after the fifth consolidation run and a day before I was going to attempt my first 5K I finally got to run it today.

Thanks Floss, of all the runs I have ran, for once my first 5K was NOT "slow and steady", all the others have been, I was hoping to run it in a little under 35 minutes which I managed, 34.21⌚ to be exact, so for the first time on all the runs🏃 I pushed💨myself to achieve that time⌚, however, after the run I was very tired but also very happy 😊

No I certainly won't forget today Clareto5k, I like your username, maybe I should change my username to "Alanto5k" 😊Thanks for the complements Claire, There are three what they call milestone runs on C25K, the third run of week 5, run 3 of week 9 which is your graduation run and probably the first time you run a full 5K although the full 5k is not officially on the C25K program despite the name. The most important of the C25K program is W9R3. I have had more replies to those three runs than any other runs on the whole program.

Alanto5k does have a ring to it! Now you have achieved the big 5K and the graduation run, what are you planning next. Will you be joining a local running club?

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate in reply toClareto5k

Not really Claire, basically I joined the C25K running program to continue with my over 65 fitness regime, I am now 72 and of normal weight and a have a BMI of 23 or 22'9, I have cycled and gone long walks since I was 7 but apart from at school never really ran despite winning some sprints at Primary school.

When I ran that 20 minute run of week 5 it was the longest run that I had ever ran in my life, I am sure my late wife Marilyn would have been very proud of me, actually she was a coach at our local athletic club back in the 1980's, also she officiated at some athletic meetings, at one of those athletic meetings the officials were short of a lap bell ringer, I happened to go to that meeting and they asked me to ring the bell while my wife took the times of the runners. No I have no intention of joining my local athletic club, the vast majority of the athletes in that club are school children and adults under 30.

Allan im so delighted for you... well done and what a fantastic time ....you should be so proud of yourself ...respect to you ...happy healthy running to you allan 🏃🏃😊😊

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrAmbassadorGraduate in reply toMyrar

Thank you Myrar, I ran that 5K locally around Broadwood Loch near the Clyde Football Stadium where just two weeks ago they held the Cumbernauld 10K.

However, I started it just a 10-minute walk from where I live in Condorrat, to be exact for timing, the second lampost after you cross the M80 just past Condorrat Library, I started my run at exactly 10 past 10. I have walked and timed that 5K many times so I know where I am at various intervals. At 5 minutes into my run if I am on schedule I go under an underpass at Westfield, yesterday I was 10 seconds ahead of schedule. Last Wednesday I reran week 9 run 3 in 30 minutes, yesterday at that exact point I was 3 minutes earlier than last Wednesday, I thought, 'good I should make this 5k in slightly less than 35 minutes' I was hoping to do it in', when I completed it I was 39 seconds ahead of the 35 minutes, so I am very pleased with my time, hope you are keeping well, remember as they say in the song "Keep on Running".

Well done you!!! 5k I’m 35 minutes is fantastic! You must be so pleased 😃

I’ve heard you mention Glasgow before, that’s where I am, if you are too there is a parkrun in pollock if that’s somewhere you can get to? You definitely should with a fab time like that!
