Last night (Sunday) I thought my 1st run this morning (Monday) W8 would be hard. I went metal detecting Sunday morning walking on muddy fields sucked at your feet for about 2: 1/2 hours.

I did not get out of breath but bottom of back both sides of spine was hurting but it was only muscle ache. When I got home I was as stiff as a board even up till the time I went to bed, my legs just ached. I was expecting a hard 28 mins run today, boy was I surprised.

Normally as a lot of members also find the 1st 10 mins my calves ache and my breathing is ragged. By about 15 mins I have settled down and feel ok. Today was totally different, sorry Ju-Ju but I have to mention my heart rate again (-:

When I get up 1st thing on a running day I go to loo get dressed, turn on computer & phone, put chest strap on. No almost every time my heart rate for these simple jobs is 63 bpm, as I am typing this it is 66 bpm.

Anyway done the 5 min warm up and then started the run. I got to 6 mins and suddenly realised 2 things, no burn in calves and breathing was about the same as if I am typing this post!! I checked bpm and it was only 67. I was stunned how my breathing and heart has improved since the 1st 5 min run when I was gasping for breath. Mind you it was all down to taking members advice to slow down.

All the way through to the last minute of the run my breathing was a lot calmer and at no time was I gasping for breath. When I got halfway I turned up the pace just a tad as Laura suggested. That made my heart rate go up but breathing was the same.

The last minute dash was different as heart beat shot up but still felt relaxed. I was going to say I hardly got a sweat up but since there was a frost this morning and garage very cold I am not surprised.

The running vest is just too cold this weather.I think a trip to sports direct for some half of full sleeved shirts on top of vest that I can strip off once I get warmed up, as you always do.

I know what you mean about the cold. I have a running jacket with a zip all the way down, so that once I get warmed up I can take it off and tie it round my waste. I also have running gloves as although I'm happy running in a vest my hands still get really cold.
